I think i might need a new clutch. help anyone??
ok well lets start by saying not many people go into the drivetrain train section,so im gonna post here.
i have a 2002 mustang and when i was driving yesterday my car started to squeal. i put it in first and my clutch was really hard to push down and when i started driving in first it felt like two pieces of metal grinding on one another. then it sort of continued on to second gear then the rest were fine but everytime i did press down on the clutch it would make a nasty squealing sound. my guess is a new clutch the big questions is should I get a stage 1 or 2 clutch?

Throw out bearing would be my guess.
do you make enough power to need a stage2? |

i dont make enough power yet, i only ask because my guess it would be cheaper to get a stage 2 clutch now then later. but if anyone else has a different opion let me know i could be wrong

so if i can fix my throw out bearing or if my friction material is shot and i fix either one. will my car be running smoothly again???

You should install a complete clutch kit, i.e. disk, pressure plate, t/o bearing, and pilot bushing/bearing. The kit should also have the centralizing tool.

if it is just the TO bearing you could just replace that, but might as well get a new clutch of your friction material is gone you need a whole new clutch

Not to be a thread jacker here or anything but last winter I redid my clutch(same problem, throwout bearing went and had a wicked shudder from the previous owner) anyway when the clucth is fully released you can feel the throwout bearing vibrating through the pedal and hear it quite well some times. I know it's back togethor properly and I lifted the pedal to adjust the cable and everything. Anyone have any Ideas???

ok i appreciate everyones input.
![]() so my conclusion will be to get a new clutch. so should i get stage 1 or 2. i am planning on modding my engine so... would a stage two be a better investment than just your run of the mill stock or stage 1 clutch??

well at some point it became unaligned
that depends if its not going to see a lot more power its not worth it

The alignment tool is really just an assembly aid to get the disk aligned close enough that the transmission will go back in. The first time you push the clutch pedal in the disk aligns its self.
A more likely cause of your problem is a warped pressure plate so that the release fingers are not all even. That could cause a noise in the t/o bearing when it is pushed up against the pressure plate. |
