You could get rid of the latch system and use hood pins....

a friend of mine used to open his pos notch hood by hitting the hood really hard where the latch is

I just installed hood pins on my foxbody, because the latches do not line up on my cowl hood, whihc was previously blown off the car due to slight front end damage and lack of fixing (pwnt), then after 7 months, I finally decided to fix it, ended up with the latch having fitment issues. Now I am dependent on the hood pins which i originally bought for looks.
