Homemade H-pipe...

So i have true duals and i want to add an h-pipe for a little more of a throaty sound...my question is...online they want more money than i feel like spending for a premade h-pipe...Advance auto had 2 1/2 exhaust piping for $13 for 2 feet...my friend is a great welder and said he could just fab up an h-pipe w/ that if i wanted, no charge as long as i bought the piping...

question #1

is there any difference between an online h-pipe and one welded at home

question #2

if they're so ez to make why are they so expensive online

yeah its just paying that guy 60$ an hour to weld something. plus paying for a name brand. other then that. your paying for *hopefully* something of quality.
but yeah a home made one will work just make sure he doesn't gob up the inside of the tubes.
tig or mig?

It will work just fine...

Make sure that he does quality work however, the smallest imperfection will be amplified due to the heat of the exhaust. The stress from head and the bouncing of the car will be sure to crack the welds if they are not sound.

Hope it all works out!

If you get a chance, take pics of the pipe and list the materials for everyone (including approx price), someone else may be wanting to do the same thing and not b/c they don't know what to get and how to go about it.

I built my own, and it works just fine. With the exhaust system in place, I took a cardboard tube from a roll of papertowel as a template and shaped both ends to create the correct length and the semi-circular ends. Once you have a tight, smooth fit, mark the position with a Sharpie, and remove the cardboard tube. Then, take your hole-saw and bore through each exhaust tube. Slit the template and shape your steel crossover tube to the same shape. Position and tack-weld the steel tube in place. Now, drop the exhaust from the headers / manifolds and finish the perimeter welds. Presto!
