Oops. Help. Spider gears cost

Yea i was revvin my car at a stop light wit some friends in the car lettin them hear my exhaust... and the light turned green... and without thinking about it i fuckin put it in drive and neutral bombed.
I heard POOF... smoke rolled... CRAP lol
had my sisters boyfriend (mechanic) come look @ it. he listened to it and said yeh its the spider gears, but he's gotta look at it tomorrow morning and see if thats all thats screwed up back there...

OMG how much am i looking at. he said he couldn't really tell me but with what i've said, with the smoke, and with spider gears screwed for sure (could the smoke be from the spider gears?) how much would this put me at guys... i am such a retard/idiot gawd.

well either u replace the spider gears, or just get a tlock and gears now...might as well do it now if u plan on doing it later, cause in the end ull just spend more money if u fix the spider gears now then do tlok/gears later

It won't be cheap. The gears you can get for less than $150. However, install is gonna cost you at least $200 probably more like $400. I'm guessing around $500 for the whole thing.

Same exact thing happened to my buddys car, guy named diesel on here, which is why his car has been sitting up in my yard for half a year,
spider gears were 60$ from the dealer, just the gears, but they are damn hard to replace if you have never done it before, its rediculous hard to put them on, and thats if all the metal that was moving around in there didnt damage the carrier, if it damaged that you just way better off going with new gears and a t-lok, i dont know where these guys are getting theyre prices that its 200$$ for install, out where im at all the shops are asking 400-600$$

Just be glad it wasnt your transmission that went. Heck with the "smoke" description you gave, seems to be more like a transmission than gears.

I said at least $200 probably closer to $400 for install(most places here charge about 400, but I didn't know if he might be able to find it cheaper). Plus, my $500 estimate for total cost was right about in the midrange of what it should be using your numbers. Keep in mind I was saying that is just to fix the spider gears. Although if there is a bigger problem (that caused the smoke) then it will cost a lot more.

NO! He's just gonna want a7.5 tlok and gears. With the 8.8 upgrade it will cost him close to 1K or more after install. You only need an 8.8 if you're planning BIG power, which he can't afford right now.

As a side note to the OP are you sure the smoke wasn't just caused by your tires spinning?

When doing a neutral drop, slamming it into gear and the transmission catching, I don't think the transmission would have sufficient amount of power to rotate the tire enough to make smoke. Most you'd get out of it is a chirp.

I got smoke when I popped my rear end in my GT.

then again I kinda broke the center pin and chipped a few teeth off the pinion gear.
