Ignition switch or starter?

Question, again....
Every once in a while (like once every 2 weeks or so) when I go to start my car, it will start to turn over, and then when its just about to start, it like stops. I dont really know how to explain it, it makes a noise, not like a grinding but kind of.... like i turn the key, it wants to start, and then just stops, but then I go to start it again and it starts right up.
Would that be my starter starting to go or maybe I need a new ignition switch or the contacts are dirty?
This is for a 2000 V6

it could also be the battery or the altinator....if their not holding a charge then youll have that problem...but it sounds to me like its the altinator.....but i dont know for sure....i would take it to a machanic and let him do a diasgnostics on it to check it out

How often do starters and altinators go? I mean the car has 70K on it right now. Should I just replace these things now and get it out of the way? That way I dont have to deal with it down the road, I mean I know it sounds stupid to replace something that isnt broke yet, but nothing really has had to be replaced with this car, until I got my hands on it, and if its around that mileage where things are just going to start going on it I might as well nip it in the butt now..

ya it wouldnt hurt their not that expensive.....but also i forgot to mention this earlier it may be your fuel regulator.....and to check your battery look at it and see if its puffy on the sides if it is its bad or if you crank up your car and turn it off with your lights still on and they go dim its your battery but if it isnt then it may be the altinator...you can go to discount and get one and put it on in an hour

Yeah I might as well do that while im at it. The battery is only a few months old so I hope that isnt it.
But thanks. I always go with the worst case scenario instead of the easiest stuff first. I need someone to keep me in line lol

Yeah, thats another thing I didnt even think about doing.... I know my battery is fine, or at least it should be and if its not then they have to replace it anyways. But yeah I guess I should do that

hey look at ur battery does it have white stuff around the connecting thingy (i dont wats its called) if so just get some baking soda and a bit of coke or someting. put alot baking soda on the connections and then just dropa little coke on it. it should clean up a bit then just get a wire bruxh and clean it off that should work i think. i tried that out on my car cuz thats wat mine would do it just stopped doing after that but i dont know if its safe to drop a liquid on a battery.

Or I could just buy a new one... Thanks though, but I will refrain from dumping stuff on my battery terminals lol...

Actually, in all seriousness, a can of Coke-Cola really will work quite well to clean up the battery terminals, and the battery.... Dump it on.. let it sit a bit, then hose it off with water... works fairly well

Well, this is true... But damn, it sure doesn't make the neighboors scratch their heads like it does when you pop your hood, crack a coke, take a drink, then dump it on your battery

doubt its the alternator. id say its the starter. or maybe there is a problem with you flexplate/flywheel, or with the contact between the starter and the flexplate/flywheel

which of these would the cold affect if any? Because its only doing it when its like freezing temps. It has been fairly warm lately, 40's but when it was dropping right down to the teens, low 20s at night and I was starting it early in the morning when it was in the high 20's low 30's it would start to start then cut out... Just seems a little odd its only doing it when its really cold out

I dont know, maybe its just in my head.. But it hasnt done it in a while now
