rear end problem...

So I have had my stang about a year now and when I first bought it I had to have the rear, driver side axle bearing replaced (well over 1000 + the 3.73 installed). Its a year later and now I have the same noise that I had when I first bought it. So to me it seems that it would be the same problem. The sound is a whu, whu, whu and I feel it on the brake. Could this be a bent axle housing causing this? If so, should I just get a used 8.8 and rebuild it or just rebuild used 7.5? I already have the gears for the 7.5 and money is an issue. Thanks for any info guys.

Well the 7.5 will be cheaper. Also, you don't need the 8.8 unless you have plans for over 300RWHP. However, well over 1000 for just replacing the axle bearing is WAY too much. You could have done the 8.8 swap with gears for that price. Do you do a lot of driving on rough terrain? Cuz I wouldn't think you should be having so much trouble with your rear end.

I bought the car used and when I drove it off of the lot it had a sound that I thought was the brakes. Took it to a Ford dealer and had them go over it, pull the rear end apart and found the bad bearings. While it was apart I had them install the 3.73s. The price was mostly for the labor though as parts were about 500. When money permits, I will be over the 300 mark so I was thinking of rebuilding a used 8.8. If I'm not mistaken, there are no performance parts for the 7.5, right? If there is, I would do this as a cost issue.

Thanks for the links. I'm not really an Ebay kind of guy, but the prices and feedback seem promising.

you dont have it get it off ebay either, they are a mustang salvage yard in georiga, you can call them and they will send it to you directly. The ships isnt to bad for a entire engin and trany it was $200 thats not to bad. but here is the link. you can call them and talk to there sales reps. they just use ebay to promot there business.

you are best off getting an 8.8 that matches your year group, like 94-98, 99-04 etc etc....for the switch u basically unbolt brakes, shocks, control arms and driveshaft and watever other miscellanious stuff, then bolt the 8.8 in....its basic cause the v6 and gt have the same spots for everything, just different size housings

Hey Chris, I have yet to find any aftermarket parts for the 7.5 like axles. Where could I find them? i would like to go this route if possible as I do not plan on F/I.

Also, I am still interested in you BV heads but need to fix this problem first.

Not yet. I have tried to get ahold of MPS all weekend and even sent in a parts request through their site, but they have not gotten back to me as of yet. The one thing I have been wondering is if there are aftermarket axels for the 7.5 as I really would not mind building it up instead of the 8.8. If you have any websites or contacts for the 7.5 axels, I would appreciate the info.
