Switching Tunes

I just got my Excal 3 in. I set the car up for the performance 87 tune which is pretty aggressive to my surprise. Its wants to chirp the wheels everytime you go from a dead stop and get on it. I am happy with that tune.

I have a trip coming up this weekend and its about 4hours. I know I can switch to that tune (87 Gas Mileage), for the trip. Does it hurt the PCM any when you go back and fourth like that. I cant imagine why it would but I am no expert on tunning. Just curious. Thanks guys.

I hope it doesnt! I switch mine all the time. Probably 10 times in the last 3 weeks. I changed it back to stock when I took it into the dealer for exhaust work. Then I would change it to a 93 tune. When the gas was gone I'd take it back to the pre-programmed 87 tune. I change it alot. I wouldnt think it hurts anything as long as your tune is safe.

BTW- I have found the best accelaration and power comming from the 87 tune. It just a butt-dyno talking however, I really think it performs the best on the 87. I have not done anything dramatic with shift points, pressure, timing or air/fuel. Maybe this is why the 87 tune it came with does the best.

I will say this too. I have been gradually softening the shift pressure from 1-2 and 2-3. Its only getting wheel spin at WOT but I worry about how hard it is on the tranny when Im doing it all day. I figured if I soften it up, I wont be so tempted to beat on it to feel/hear wheel spin through the first 3 gears.

Yea, the 87 tune is pretty nice. I was impressed. Thanks for the info. I am not comfortabel withswitching things yet, lol. but I will soon. I was thinking about getting an 89 or 91 tune. I already have the two 87 tunes, and a 93 Nitrous tune.

oh, fellas. I was looking at something. I have 3 custom tunes which are mentioned above..But it also comes with pre-tuned as well. So does that mean there are 4 seperate tunes there? Or is that taken up because of the 3 custom tunes? Curious.

I dont think so. The stock tune on my Xcal is labeled "stock tune". The "pre-set" is the one they put in before I got it. You can change the settings in those if you want to as well anyway.

Do this for fun--- make a simple change just to get the hang of it. change the tire size setting. Then go beat on it! You can go from 0-100 in 2 seconds!

I have no custom tunes. My cars not "modded" enough to need it. I guess the preset is as close as it gets to being custom. I can change the setting in preset. Stock just takes it back to stock.

Seriously, the speedo thing is fun. It feels odd driving 30 and the speedo reads 110. Only problem is that is cranks up your "miles" real quick so I wouldnt leave it on too long. To bad there isnt a way to "slow it down" Then your miles would add up slower keepiong the mileage down thus adding to the value of the car! JOKING! I know, its a slimy thing to do Im just saying.

Well the Gas Tune did well. Usually I on my trip from NC to VA Beach, I will be left with under a 1/4 tank of gas. With the Tune it left me with close to a half a tank of gas. Love the Tune.

the tuner comes with a tune for the v6 from the manufacturer of the actual tuner. Then, you have your stock tune, then you have ur 3 custom tunes. I love mine.
