Custom exhaust today!!

I'm finally making the move & getting my custom exhaust done today. I had originally wanted the delta series flowmaster, but they don't have them. So i'm going with the original 40's. Please tell me I made the right choice ;-). Well hopefully I can at least get some pictures up tonight!

A little thought on exhaust. This only applies to cars that have less than 80,000 miles or are younger than 8 years old. Ford admitted that there was a design flaw with the A/C unit "dripping" condensation onto the midpipe causing it to crack right after the manifold.

Just as a heads up, if you do a cats back set-up, it does not void that warranty. Mine was a cats back set up so they honored it and are still in the process of fixing it at no charge.

There is one issue though. Apparently, muffler shops all do things a little different. The one I went to welded everything from the mid pipe back. I guess on a stock exhaust there is a "flange" somewhere between the mid pipe and cats. For whatever reason, my exhaust shop removed the flange (which allows you to take the front part of the exhaust off leaving the back on the car intact) and now its just straight pipe that is welded.

The problem is that they had to remove the entire exhaust in one piece because my muffler shop put on my custom exhaust without the flange. It made things very difficult. To make it even harder, I have a vert so they had to work around the cross supports as well.

I guess the bottom line to this is if you think of it, ask the muffler shop to make sure the exhaust is easy to disconnect. That way if you get a cracked mid pipe or manifold, you (or the authorized ford dealer) will be able to easily remove that portion of the exhaust without having to remove the whole thing. This almost cost me my "free" fix to the drip and crack problem.

They are actually doing 2 1/4", with a custom H. Flowmaster 40. 3.5 Inch rolled tips w/ the 45 degree slash cut. Unfortunately I won't be the one picking it up from the shop. Going to be a LONG day @ work.

They are most of the way done, so I'm hoping that they made it easy to disconnect...thanks for the info sonic. I've still got another 30k miles & 2 years to go!

And to add to what JASonic said...Have the guy doing the exhaust just fab up a little blocker to keep the A/C compressor water from dropping on the exhaust.
