CAI Sound

This is probably a dumb question but.. I've got the CAI of of American Muscle, and I want to know how much is it going to change the sound under the hood. On my initial start up it is really loud. It doesn't sound like a whistle, more like a really loud (woosh) sound. Then after it warms up and the idle goes down it quiets off. Then it occasionally makes the same sound when I have the A/C on. So really my question is, is that normal?

I would say yes, mine does it too.Probably because more air is coming in and the tubing is metal

I don't know man, but mine makes a really deep throaty sound after i installed my K&N.
It could be one of your joints isn't as tight as it should be and air is escaping making a "woosh" sound

I'm not complaining about it, I was just curious if that's what it's supposed to sound like.

Its because you have removed your silencer.

that piece of tubing in front of your original filter that is narrow, it just restricts the airflow, and thus makes it quieter (and is why when you get the CAI your performance improves.

MIA is right. Its more about engine sound coming back out of that "unsilenced" hole. think about it, you have a straighter less obstructed path to the engine with no silencer there to muffle the sound.

speaking of removing the silencer....anyone have that link to the tutorial on how to do it....I'm about to go work on my car and actually remove that entire fender wall (my electric antenna stopped working) and i might as well take that out while in the area. I;m sure i can figure it out myself, but i feel more confident seeing it first.

Im not sure where the tutorial is but on mine, I simply removed the filter and then pulled the silencer out with my hands.

noticed some tonal difference from the stock filter...as for performance increase, not enough to notice by the filter alone, but i know that it will do good in the long run w/ other mods. did u remove ur silencer?
