electric water pump
What would be the benefit of a 12 volt electric water pump on a V-6 besides freeing up a few HP?

Nothing at all. Its a Bad idea like the rest of your ideas.
Oh but why is it a bad idea? Well unless your going to pack up your car, trailer it to the 1320, and pack it back up you don't want an electric pump. You get on the highway or stuck in rush hour traffic and have it go out, short out, etc your in big trouble. Not worth the few hp.

You know what SS, you an asshole. First, its not my idea, its just a question. Muscle Car on Spike was rebuilding a Mustang into a race car and they put an electric water pump in it. They said it would free up power.
No, I had no plans on buying it, I dont mod my car to that point nor do I race it. I was simply an interesting show and I wanted to see what people thought of it. Thanks for your opinion on the pump its appreciated and welcome... fuck you for telling me I have bad ideas

This is why we lose members on a daily basis. SS the comment was not necessary and you could have said it without the 'just like all of your other ideas'. Just because you know more than someone doesnt mean you have to degrade because they ask a simple question. Grow up.

And JA I dont know about the V6's but there are many many mach 1 guys running around with Electric water pumps with no problems what so ever. Just make sure you buy a decent brand. I will be picking up one shortly.

I agree with ssstang an electric water pump would not be a good idea for anything other than a drag car, but he could have put it a little nicer

Guys, really, I'm not shopping for one. I simply was curious about the idea. They were rebuilding a really sweet older Mustang. I think like a 64 Fastback. Thye were even fabbing up an entire custom exhaust. when he got to installing a water pump, it was electric. I had never heard of an electric water pump. I've heard of the dreaded electric turbo and that gimmiky kind of stuff, but never the pump. With electric motors being extremely reliable today and the fact that it never draws off a pulley, I understood their logic on the show... but I like to hear what others have to say.

Sorry you ask so many dumb questions you start getting smart ass answers in return, in person, on a forum, at car club, generally how it works.

Dude! Easy! Your panties get in a bunch so quickly. If you dont like all my dumbass questions than dont answer them. Im not seeing where this says "SSS V-6 Section". Its not personal. I wont lose any sleep if you dont answer my questions, its really OK. But, don't go tell me about dumb questions. Those guys on Muscle Car are professionals. If they think that an electric water pump has its place, than I dont see why its dumb. I'd be happy to post another question about T-loks or or what gears should I get that way you can reassure yourself that you know about cars with an answer your comfortable with. I'm going to post this somewhere else just to see how "dumb" the question is.

How else are people supposed to learn? There is no such thing as a dumb question. The sooner you learn that the better person you will be.

BTW JAsonic notice how you said they were building a "race" car? Reading material: " And the choice to run an electric water pump might save you some power, but it could cost you something more. You see nothing's free in the power-building world. What makes power for you in one area, can extract a price in another. While the power benefits of an electric water pump can hardly be denied, the costs of running one on the street can be harsh. Overheating would be your main cause for concern. That's because, while most stock and aftermarket belt-driven pumps can flow as much as 100 gallons of water per minute and racing pumps can flow even more, most electric pumps flow less than half that amount. It's a simple matter of physics and a giant paradox of performance. In order to flow enough water through the system, the pump requires a power source strong enough to move a large quantity of liquid. The gains from moving lots of water through the system are better cooling. The losses are measured in horsepower. An electric motor, on the other hand, does not cost horsepower to run, but instead it trades volume for power and cannot flow as much water. If you built an electric pump with a motor big enough to flow the huge volume of water equal to that of a belt-driven pump, it'd be so massive that you probably couldn't fit it under your hood. And the electrical power requirements for such a pump would make it impractical for use on any car. So, clearly, the dilemma is: cooling vs. horsepower. And the path you choose will be defined by the use of your car. Street or drag? If you can afford a second car for your everyday commute and your hot rod only sees use on the weekends, then running an electric pump might be the way to go. But don't plan any long trips down the highway, because that's where you'll need all those extra gallons of water. Of course, you could always run a belt-driven pump and mechanical fan on the street and then switch to an electric pump and electric fan for the track, but is 10 more horsepower really worth all the headache?"

im actually highly considering it
eventually i may retire the car as a street car seeing how gas is, i will no doubt always street race and ride it on the weekends but this is a mod for us that would probably be more with it when deleting a/c AND power sterring hell if you just ran crank only no belt. deleted a/c, power sterring, alternator and water pump(using electric) you'd gain probably 40hp or more thats a lot of power that doesnt have to be taken out of the crank
