How Hard Does Your Automatic Shift

Hey guys Im just curious, how hard do your auto's shift when your getting on the throttle? Ive never driven another V6 SN95 automatic other than mine, only 5 speeds and S197's so I really dont know how its supposed to feel. Mine used to shift real hard but now for some reason its not shifting hard at all, im wondering how its supposed to be. Its a stock tranny, no J-mod or any other shift kit. I Reset the computer and it shifted hard again for a few days and now its back to shifting smooth. I dont know if my question makes much sense to many of you guys but im looking for firmer shifts when I get on the throttle and Im afraid my tranny might be shitting out. Car only has 42k miles on it and im broke so im really hoping not. The ATF was never changed so im going to hopefully get around to changing it this weekend and Ill check out the tranny and go from there.

Also anyone have an idea on how much a tranny will run me? Im not worried about installation, I talked to Torres and worked out some prices with him if it needs to be done since he lives fairly close to me.

I used to downshift it a bit so you never know, hey my dad had Ford Taurus as his company car like 5 years back and he blew his tranny in 30k miles, now luckily it wasnt his car, it was probably still under warrenty anyways.

my '97 shifted slower than wind erosion. I hated it. 5spd ftw! lol

my 03 auto stang with full dual exhaust & cai is the slowest car ever. I jump in my moms 2008 malibu and its quick as hell and good acceleration. Mentioning my mustang has 96 thousand miles on it. If I want my stang to actually go I have to push the pedal more than half way down to actually get somewhere, though then i see my gas needle go down lol. People behind me get pissed at me all due to how slow I accelerate until I get to about 50-60 mph. Also my shifting in my auto is a bit funky sometimes

with my shift kit, my car chirps into 2nd and into 3rd. And i mean CHIRPS, non of that "bang 2nd in a honda ex" chirp, i mean turns over 285 rear tires going 55 shifting into 3rd chirp.

My tuner gave me the "spin" too even without any tranny mods. I actually have soften the shifts because I got a little tired of it. It sounds like the tranny is learning really fast to adapt to your driving habits. If you really want the harder shifts, try an inexpensive fix like a tuner.

Yea thats what I was hoping, thats why I had rest the computer. It never used to do it though, it used to always shift hard, now it shifts like shit. It still seems to be able to chirp into second when im manually upshifting it. Idk though, one of the times I tried it recently it didnt shift hard and it just feels more inconsistant and slower to me, sometimes it feels like its slipping to me lately. I want to get a tuner but im afraid to spend my money on that and then have the tranny go have no money at all. If the tranny holsds Ill definitly have a tuner and full exhaust in september, hopefully nitrous as well, just depends on my money situtation.

thats what mine does and i love it. as far as the shifts not being hard i believe its from your computer learning your driving habits like someone already said and if you do get a tuner and decide against it you can always sell it.

to contribute to the thread, my auto kinda shifts slow, but its stock, it doesnt quite come with a performance tranny, so i wouldnt worry

before i had my tuner and before the shift kit, my car shifted ok. you will def know if your tranny is slipping. You wont feel it "click" into the next gear and it will take a good 30 feet to finally fully shift. But i agree with you, better to find out about your tranny first before you get a tuner.

I dont feel it at all. My car seems slow as fuck to me lately, idk if its because ive been riding my my friends Cobra a lot lately and its just my imagination or what but it just feels slower. I think I need the extra 2 cylinder mod lol.
