This could be folklore but I heard someone saying CF can shatter if its at that right frequency and a rock or something hits it.

Sounds like lotto winning odds anyway but can that really happen?

im sure there is probably some legit thing to frequency, the right sound vibrations can do some crazy shit.....as for a performance standpoint, im pretty sure that taking a 6lb over a 13lb probably wont do much but its still better than the other, im not really trying to increase my times, matter of fact i dont really go to the strip......one is pretty close but not really into right now, im more for building my car to what i want, and as long as it will gimme the "oh shit, better slow down a little," im fine

6 pounds of rotational mass is way better than 13

There aren't alot of car thieves out there stealing drive shafts. And those that do are more than likely to just steal your whole car.

As for if it is worth it...well that depends on what the price ends up being. If it is over a grand, then there are much better things that you could do with that money. If it's $600 then you might want to really think about it. I would like to see some dyno #'s before and after the CFDS.

If these things are tested and legit, the tuning (shatter) frequency should be engineered out of it, if this is even the case. As for multiple rock hits, I would imagine that this is factored in as well. Now it may become a factor if you plan on running Pikes Peak with your Mustang, which I doubt any of us will.

When made the right way carbon fiber is stronger than steel. I'm sure for an application such as this, that is the case.

The tuning "shatter" frequency can happen happen with any material, INCLUDING STEEL! A quality piece will have the frequency at some rpm you will never reach. Even if you could reach it though you would have to keep you car at a specific rpm for at least several seconds. A variation by as much as ONE rpm will resolve the issue.

Our newest "Critical Link" Carbon Fiber Driveshaft for Drag Racing application is 3 3/4" diameter, a 50" driveshaft weighs only 6LBS - with 1350 series solid U-Joints add 3LBS and Slip Yoke add approx 2 1/2LBS.
With the U joints and yoke, it's 11.5 lbs. I believe the aluminum driveshaft weighed in around 13 lbs. The 1.5 lb difference is not worth $500 more than an aluminum driveshaft, you probably wouldn't notice any difference.

Ill second that, the gains if any would be minimal.

wit the money youll spend buying the cfds you could just go buy an aluminum driveshaft and front coil-overs or rear seaet delete or something and save a whole lot more weight than an extra 1.5 lbs
