Power Windows ~~gremlins Got To Be!!!~~

Hey guys,

Just picked up a 97 and neither one of the windows does ANYTHING.

I have replaced MANY window motors / regulators but this time I am having a strange problem...

1. The regulators (tracks) themselves appear fine, everything is where it should be and nothing is bent, binding or otherwise outta whack.

2. The MOTORS themselves are FINE!!! (strange) I took off the door panel hooked wires to a spare car battery touched wires and the windows GO UP and GO DOWN that way.

I even TOOK APART A MOTOR to see if the bushing swere ate up, BUT it was pretty and seemed fine.....

3. Took apart BOTH the master drivers side switches and passengers, sprayed electrical cleaner stuff, checked all the connections, of course there are many wires but they ARE getting power when moving the window buttons up and down...

4. I EVEN took apart the UP/DOWN BUTTONS themselves!... Nothing much there just some brass and plastic for making CONTACT points...

5. I checked the FUSE under the dash labeled POWER WINDOW it's fine.

6. As far as I can tell the HIGH FUSE box under the hood everything is fine, although I don't think anything there controls the windows...

SO I AM AT A LOSS.....

Is it possible I can make the motors TURN off the battery but they are STILL BAD???? I mean I would hate to BUY 2 new motors and then find out is something else electrical!!.....

Is there a RELAY somewhere under the dash or anywhere that I can check??

This car is UNMOLESTED it still has the factory mach 460 with TAPE DECK!!!

Everything I pulled apart it appears to have not been pulled apart before so I don't think anyone messed this up with faulty stereo installs or anything....

I have TRIED everything and learned a lot while doing it..but there must be SOME KINDA GREMLIN somewhere....

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED..

take care,
-Joey Stubblefield

if you know how to use an ohm meter check every connection you can with that. make sure your getting 12+ V everywhere you should, and if your not follow it to the problem.
Def sounds like a bad connection or wire.

Did you check to see if the regulators are bound up?

Lube all the pivots in the door and move the window by hand.

Jump 12V onto the motor connections and see if the output shaft turns.

After that, I dunno what to tell you. I do electrical, but I'm not there, and I can't see or touch your car, so I dunno.

does that include the lock switch?
and would that fit a 95?
because my lock/unlock button no longer makes contact on the lock side.
Maybe we can work something out :-)

The motors DO TURN when I jump 12v to them...and I dont think the regulators were bound because I still have the passenger side INTACT and when I junp 12v to it the window goes up and down fine (no noises or anything)

BUT nothing works from the switches, I took the switches apart and they look fine, not a whole lot there to NOT work and both sides look the same...

SOMEHOW, I think I am not getting the right power going INTO the driversswitchplate (things that the buttons are mounted on....) as I think the drivers side actually HAS to control the passenger side so if the drivers side is not getting the right juice neither side will work...

Theres like 8 wires going into that switchplate (and yes all the wires seem to be as tight as they can be) for 2 window buttons and the lock/unlock switch.... some light up with a test light with thee acc ignition turned to on, and then others light up when I press buttons one way or the other...

I DO NOT have the window lock safety button thingy....

I do not know where to trace the wires back into the car from the switch plate, it goes into the door and I'm lost from there... I suppose it goes into the fuse box under the dash?? Which the fuse is one of those silver metal ones 20c.e. amp size....and checks out fine.

I have access to a 94 thunderbird and the buttons look the same from the outside I am going to pull it off and see if it will fit to check the switch, but from looking at that switch APART it looks fine and nothing breakable..

Thanks for the input and I hope to get it solved and posted back this afternoon.

(GOD IT FEELS GOOD TO HAVE A STANG AGAIN!!!!) Just gotta get her operating properly...lol
