Problems/Springs
Well I got my springs in today
![]() Problem is A. I don't have a spring compressor and apparently I need one. B. It came with a new snubber bracket.. Don't know where that goes. C. I called a car place and they said it would cost 300$ to put in... I payed 228$ for them. So any suggestions or anyone in the Houston area that knows a shop that will do it for cheap |

Dude you dont have to have a compressor. I did my complete spring job w/o it.
The only area that you even come close to needing one is removing the stock ones. The new springs are shorter and go in super easy. On the fronts.... get it as high as you can on jack stands. Put your floor jack under the A arm to support it. remove everything that needs it... brake calliper (not the line) upper strut mount (under the hood) and the sway bar or tie rod (what ever rod that is ) once the A arm is free from everything to be able to drop... slowly lower the jack to let it all the way down. Have a friend guide the top of the strut down through the opening as it drops. Once its all the way down the spring will have very little pressure on it. Take a pry bar (i used a really big screwdrive) and pry it out. The new ones (as stated before) go in really easy cause they are shorter. On the rears... Jack car up on jack stands.... Un bolt the shocks and quad shocks.... Take your jack to the oppisite side of the car and jack UP on the AXLE. The upward movement will cause the side your working on to LOWER. Kinda like a teeter totter. One side goes up forcing the other side to go down. With mine, we had all the pressure we could get on jack side of the axle I ended up standing and jumping on the hub assembly while my buddy pried it out. Yeah a spring compressor would have put it a bit more on the easy side but I was told I didnt need one... so I didnt get it. The whole job wasnt that hard at all. I reccomend that you invite a couple friends over put some beer on ice... and have some pizza delivered for your lunch LOL.... I had a good time doing my stuff. I like turning wrenches on my car.

the snubber bracket goes in the rear, you'll see it above the front of the rear end bolted to the bottom of the car

I would be much easier to pay the couple bucks and rent the spring compressor from Auto Zone or somewhere similar.
Once the car is on jackstands: Jack the applicable lower control arm You place the compressors (there will prolly be 2, do not get the internal compressors, they are almost impossible to use on the mustangs) on each side of the spring. Tighten the bolt on the compressor, 1-3 turns on each at a time (DO NOT TIGHTEN 1 ALL THE WAY AND THEN THE OTHER). Let the pressure off of the jack SLOWLY and remove the spring. With the spring out of the car, slowly remove the tension on the compressors (the same way you applied it). Compress the new spring and slide it into place then jack the control arm back up to meet the spring. Slowly remove the tension on the compressors (same way) and then let the jack off. You should have enough to do this, and if not, just ask a local mustang guy, or a buddy that has done springs before for help. |
