Exhaust Question...

Hey!
I want to keep my stang close to stock for the time being, but still have it as loud as possible.

I came across Exhaust Cut Outs and bought one to put on my car, just to see how loud it would be... All the youtube vids are of GT's reving, so I don't really have anything to go by other than that.

...But I'm getting off topic

Because I have the stock Shorty's and Y-Pipe, I don't have the ability to install it right after the headers. As I have a catback as well, my options are further limited.

What I was planning on doing, was buying a second cut out, and putting them on the opposite pipes right before the Y runs into the catback. obviously I want to avoid any imbalance in torque, etc by doing whatever I do one pipe, to the other.

Do I have any other options (as far as installing the cut out) other than the one I mentioned above?

Please keep in mind that I will be installing at some point in the future an H pipe and LT's... So cutting up the Y Pipe to experiment is all I'm interested in. So please don't offer me any advice along the lines of "Don't do it, they're illegal and you should just go with LT's and Flows or save your money and get a GT." Because while you're advice is much appreciated, I'm looking for a response based on this specific issue.

So many thanks in advance for not only reading this, but for those of you who are nice enough to post a response, I really appreciate it!

just replace the stock exhaust manifolds with long tubes, get a h-pipe, and dual flowmaster 40's... should cost between $800-$1000

edit... just read the part you said dont say lt's and flowmasters... if you want to keep the shorties and stock y-pipe, then get duals that bolt onto the y-pipe

Right, thank you both for your time...

Perhaps I didn't phrase the question correctly?

...If I install two cut outs just before the Y Pipe meets the catback (about 8-10inches before the pipes meet in the Y shape), with one on one pipe, and the other one precisely opposite the first one, on the second pipe, will I achieve the results I'm looking for... a louder and more raw sound.

If so, is there a better place to put the cut outs (I'm not asking for better pipes, headers, mufflers, I'm looking for other options concerning the placement of the cut outs). With the headers being stock, I can't put a single one right off the headers and just dump it before the cats. And because I had to cut down the length of the Y pipe when I installed th catback, I don't have any single straight piping, only dual.

So before I put them opposite each other before the catback, is there a better placement for them?

I don't need any exhaust clips, I just need placement ideas

Thanks in advance!!

idk what kind of effects that is going to have on performance, but with that open before the mufflers it will be louder...just like running cats with no mufflers

Well, from what I've heard from others, its going to reduce the torque a bit. And if they aren't placed evenly, it could cause instability.

But I'm not Speed Racer, so I'm not concerned with RWHP and torque. I just want to maintain a full exhaust system. As I know plenty of cops in each department that can help me avoid any noise pollution fines, but an exhaust violation can't be fixed

Thanks again!

Cut outs cost $30 each.
Installation is free.

30 + 0 = $30.00

Eventually I'll end up doing that... Don't really have any good exhaust shops around here. How are custom pipes w/ installation so much cheaper than buying them off of AmericanMuscle, etc and having them installed?

Mustangs Unlimited.

They've got electric ones for about $150 each on QTP.

Hmmm, are custom pipes equivalent to one's from AM as far as performance and sound? Because if they are... That's a tremendous savings. Especially if you're on a budget.

150 is quite a difference from 30

depending on the shop it can be a lil more or lil less, but yeah its all the same and its custom made for your car.

it will surely sound horrible. and you will not be able to barely move the car with how low the torque is gonna end up....very bad for the engine!! I took off my cats and ran a pipe from the headers to just before the mufflers and it sounded like a tractor ready to die. Plus, you cant hear the radio and everyone in a 2-3 mile (something like that) radius can hear ya.... cops included.

i have a 3.8 with true dual exhaust with two cherry bomb turbo mufflers dumped and would like to know if two flowmaster 40s would sound better or what the sound difference would be?
