'97 V6 - '01 GT gauge cluster compatibility?
My '97 V6 Mustang temperature gauge stopped working a couple months ago. Will a gauge cluster out of a 2001 Mustang GT (with a digital odometer) work properly in my 1997 V6 Mustang (with a old style rolling odometer)?
Thanks, Nathan |

If you're talking about the main gauges in the dash, I don't think so for the fact that the gt mph's go to 150, while the v6 mph's only go to 120.
Hope this helps.

Well that sucks
What after market gauges would work on my particular year and model? I need to have a working temp gaure again.

if you want a working temp gauge go to autometer and get a aftermarket one and a wiring diagram and splice the right wire to the gauge or drill and tap and install the sensor that the gauge comes with.

I have a gauge cluster out of a 95 v6 with the old style rolling mileage just like your car for sale. PM me if you're interested.

Stick with 94-98. The 99-04 GT's are gonna be off like they said. There is "supposedly" some cal box that you can plug in to make it work, but it's prolly not worth it. What doesn't work about it?
Is the indiactor broken, or not responding? Have you checked the sensor? Check the cluster wiring? Is the return spring broken? +1 to the autometer or whatever your poison is. It will be much more accurate, and reliable. |

I've looked into it
I wanted to see if the Autometer or the Simco [http://www.americanmuscle.com/simco-...96-98-gt.html] (cheaper) cluster works in a '97 V6 or not. I don't really like the idea of mounting extra gauges for sonthing that already has a spot in the original cluster. |

you can get a used speedometer cluster for dirt cheap off ebay, all you gotta do to get it to work is switch out the ECU (big green computer board which is located on the back of ur cluster under a white protective plastic piece) from ur current speedometer to the one you buy (otherwise the PATS system wont recognize the cluster and ur car wont start)...however if the reason the gauge isnt working is because of a problem with ur ECU than it wont fix the gauge lol
u can do the same thing with a GT speedometer, no it wont read correctly but i did it with my v6, however its an auto so i dont have to worry about the rpms, and as far as the speedometer being correct, i just figured out what speed im really going until i can see if ford can recalibrate it correctly...works great so far

Sounds good
Hey, let me know what you come up with on that re-calibration. I wish I could have a GT / Cobra cluster (work properly) in my V6 Mustang.
How hard is it to swap that board to a new gauge cluster? Are you sure I need to do that to one for my earlier model? I have the old type rolling odometer. Would this one work? Last edited by 6stang : September 9th, 2008 at 11:05 PM. |

the swap is really easy, gettin the cluster out is kinda annoying
i forgot u said u had the rolling odometer though...it should still work, however ud have to use the rolling odometer that comes with the new cluster... fuck it, i guess ur gettin new mileage either that or u could probably take all that shit apart and put it in, that might be a pain though, mines digital so i didnt run across that problem, and i have no idea how the pre 94-98 speedometer clusters are set up...(as far as the 99-04 clusters working, i dont know if the digital odometer would function or not)

id probably just try and get one that is 94-98
here is one for 20 bucks heres a GT one for $100 in this case, it looks like the ECU is pink/red, it should still swap the same, but i can't honestly say for sure, and like i said, ud probably have to use the rolling odometer thats in the new cluster, unless u can figure out how to change them to the right mileage, swap them, or say fuck it lol

im not sure on those, ud have to call autometer to see if its compatible, they will probably tell you no since it specifies which years its for
