V6 to GT brake conversion

I can get a good deal on a set of 4 '01 Mustang GT brake calipers. My '97 V6 Mustang needs calipers and I wanted to upgrade the whole set for not too much money. Other than needing to change the pads and rotors will everything work and be compatible? I have a set of '03 Mach 1 wheels on my car. Suggestions on good slotted / X-drilled rotors / quality performance brake pads?

I thinks, not sure. vut the v6 and v8 have the same breaks. but i an not sure with your year model. but here are some good rotors, StangSuspension.com Rotors - StangSuspension.com they are what i have, and for brake pads.Hawk ceramic to keep the brake dust off your rims. High Performance Pads - StangSuspension.com
This is the set up i have, and i like it.

the 01 brakes would be an upgrade for you since they are dual pistons brakes.

normally v6/gt brakes are the same but since you have a 97 the 01 brakes would indeed be an upgrade.

yea, if your gonna do it right, just buy 2k worth of cobra brakes . With your 3.8, you wont need anything that serious.

I agree... You can pick up a Mach 1 kit for $350 or so that comes with calipers (w/ pads), rotors (plain, no slotted/drilled bling), lines, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rears if you're trying to save money. The fronts do most of the work.

Like I said, the Mach kit is ~$350... and while you may not "need" great brakes, it's one area where it's good to have more than you "need".

Hey thanks for all the info. Great help! I'll look into the Cobra and Mach 1 setups. If I'm gonna pay all the $$ for the slotted and X-drilled I might as well go for the Cobra / Mach 1 kit. Will that fit on my existing lines / brackets? I have Mach 1 wheels- I'd hope they'd fit a Mach 1 brake system...

Looking around...

Hey, buddyantunez1 (Nice brakes!), did you need to change the brackets / lines (or anything else for that matter) to make those work on your V6?

And, Blainestang, where did you find the complete brake kits you mentioned for only $350?

Thanks, -Nathan
