making a scoop functional

i just installed my hood scoop, and it didnt come with the honey comb stuff for the front. my question is can i just cut out the v6 scoop stuff and have it functional and can i get rid of that black sheet that goes under my hood, and if i have to keep it, can i just cut out a il hole to make the air go through? i was told that it will fly off at high speeds, and i thought making it functional the air would go down and not rip it off... will this work? thanks

you can but it wont do anything, that black sheet is heat insulation so the paint on your hood doesnt get blackened from the heat. and if you dont get some kind of material to go at the front of the scoop it may fly off

yea, i know making it functional wont do anything, but if the air doesnt go into the scoop, and down in the hood it wont fly off, and if i remove that black sheet, will it ruin my paint?

u could just cut out what u dont need of it. but either way u need to make sure u put some sort of grille over the opening otherwise ur letting a lot of junk get down to ur engine

I know people who have removed the sheet. It isn't to protect your paint. It is a fire retardent. In the case of a fire, the plastic pins melt and the insulations falls onto the engine, breaking apart and smothering the fire. I can't see it being very efficient, though

man, ppl at 3.8mustang says making a scoop functional is a waste of time, and some say that its going to fly off, some here say its fine how it is, and that it will work just put a debris catcher in the scoop, ugh.. i dunno...

I'd say no... cause it's just going to be a waste of time and money...

you're not getting any performance or any types of gains out of it... and it's not going to look any different...

waste of time, maybe, waste of money not really at all... i dont want performance out of it i just want the air to go into the engine bay, instead of under the scoop so it dont blow off...

When I did mine, even with a hole in the hood, the wind would catch the scoop and pull it up without a support in the front to hold it down. I just fabed up a T and epoxied it to the bottom side of the hood and mounted it using the stock hole for the honeycomb, which i know you dont have but thats an idea.

Cool idea, I wouldnt want to deal with all of the crap that would get into the engine bay though. Mix that with rain and wash water and you got nasty a mess under there.

If you were looking at it for cooling, youd be better off getting an upper intake spacer from VAP.

But for aerodynamics..not so much.
