wit the kind of power youre making right now, your 7.5" rear will be MORE than strong enough with simply just a detroit tru-trac differential. way cheaper than an 8.8" and plus itll hold til ~400rwhp. than after that you can just upgrade to moser 28 spline axles and be good for 450+rwhp. imo, theres no reason to go to an 8.8" unless you plan on some huge power like 500+rwhp

thats true but not 100% true
bending the actual housing is possible too and IMO it'd happen before tearing apart a 7.5 with a detriot trutrac and moser axles
thats the only thing holding me back from buying moser 28splines

true but i also want gears and with this irs it would be cheaper than buying a detroit tru tra diff and gears when i have a new rear end with gears in it already?

One of the keys to drag racing an IRS is better bushings. The stock rubber crap allows for non-uniform reactions to suspension inputs (whether they be drag or auto-x) as well as excess movement which leads to wheel hop.

An IRS with delrin and aluminum all around is an excellent all-around rear end.

While it's out of the car, I would recommend AT LEAST replacing the subframe bushings where the IRS actually attaches to the car. That way, you don't have to drop the entire subframe when you want to install bushings in the future. Obviously, the best plan is to do it all now, but if you want to save money, do subframes now and plan to do control arms and such later.
