tranny swap

I am considering switching my automatic to a manual. I have a 2000 v6 auto... I was wondering do I need another driveshaft, or will the one I have still connect. I wanna buy an aftermarket one for my auto... It would be about 8-9 months before I swap. But I don't want to buy one if its not going to work with my manual

dude you can cut the 8-9 months and cut a break on your wallet if you just sell your car and buy an manual car.
i dont recommend the swap at all

You will need a new driveshaft (or you could have yours shortened and balanced).

But yeah, It's a huge pain in the wallet. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're crazy and want to do something crazy like a T-56 6-speed swap.

you u gotta see that theres way more than just a transmission to look at here. for one small thing, the computer would need reworked somehow and you'd have to install a clutch and do metal work for the clutch to go through.

I couldn't sell my car, I've put to much into it, and wouldn't get close to it back. I was thinking of a t-56 I have a couple grand saved up I was going to use on a 8 cylinder. But I just want a bad ass v6... Like some of the ones on tmaturbo. After a couple more mods I'mma use that money to buy forged internals, then get the power pak. I usually make 400-600 every two weeks and in the summer I'll make 800-1000. So money's not to big of an issue... Its just the time to make the money lol

Let me think... I've got the cai, udp, diablo tuner,4.10's with t-lok, 160 thermostat, 65mm throttlebody + spacer, screaming demon coil pack, msd 8.5 mm wires, ngk spark plugs. Exhaust on the way.... (should be in next week) Then its suspension, new tires, cobra head lights. Then the internals... I think it would be insane to have t-56 with 4.10.... Sounds like fun to me. I hope to get some pics of my car soon... I am a katrina victim on the gulf coast of ms. Bay St. Louis is where the eye went over... thats where I live and we lost everything we had. It still looks like a war zone here. We got a lot more damage then new orleans did... The hurricane didn't mess new orleans up, the levies did. I've seen bodies in ditches, and trees.. God you wouldn't believe the smell. But anyways I digress I'm just rambling on. Just to give you an idea... I am 14 feet above sea level. And I had over 30 feet of water at my house for 5 hours

wow dude thats horrible it must be hard i wish the best of luck to you...honestly i wouldent recomend swapping it but hey if your pulling in 500 a week i would just save up for 3 or 4 weeks and go have it done i mean i can understand when u say u put alot of work into your car becuz the trith is you wouldent get it back. But if i were making that amount of money just save up and have it dont i mean theres alot of things your going to have to swap but if you think it will be worth it go for it..

Well I'm making like 500 every two weeks. After the storm everyone started making like $3-4 dollars an hour more than before the storm. I make like 10.77 at lowes... Not bad for a high school job. I got the stang like 6 months after the storm. Every place, store, contractor is hiring, there still arn't enough people to work down here. Any ways on the progress about two months ago, we finally got our dry wall put up, and painted. We are just starting to get most of our interior doors up. Now we just need a kitchen and furniture basically. We have a washer, dryer, hot water and a fridge. Central heat and air, (thank god We got that like 3 months ago) It can get to 100 everyday in the summer. Its the humidity that sucks. One thing I'm looking forward to is taco bell is suppose to open back up next week. the next closest one is 30 miles away.

ssajdowitz you have a 98 v6 and you did the auto to t-56 swap... What modding did you have to do to make it fit.

I'll just be happy to turn lower rpms when I eventually do swap.

3k at 75, is killing me. I know it has to do some damage to my engine. I try to take the beach where I go. But the bridge is still out. And the ferry takes awhile and closes at 6. If I have a lot of time the ferry is the way to go 45-50 instead of 70-80

dude why not just tune your auto up and put a shift kit in...it will be much more consistant....and it would be better than a manual....but not as fun to drive

Sorry I didn't see your post until now.

I bought a Tremec T-56 tranny +bellhousing from ford racing for $2200 (from a 94-95 5.0)
I needed:
31-spline driveshaft yoke
Clutch fork
Clutch cable
firewall-mounted cable adjuster
clutch pedal assembly
clutch fork cover
Spec stage 3 clutch kit (comes with throwout bearing and input shaft bearing)
Aluminum flywheel (from a 94-95 5.0, 157 tooth I think)
shifter knob
shifter boot

The driveshaft needed to be shortened and balanced. The rear tranny mount had to be moved back about 3-4". The rear 02 sensors were removed (clearance issues). Then, I tuned it with the sct x-cal (you either need a dealer to write a program or buy the Pro Racer Package like I did).
You also need to modify the flywheel dust cover plate.

I don't recommend the stage 3 clutch unless you're making some crazy power. The slip zone is extremely small and engagement is very very sharp. It's much harder to drive than a normal manual tranny.

I think that covers it.

I ran a 3000rpm holeshot stall converter, a tranny cooler, full synthetic B&M racing tranny fluid, and a tune on my old auto. It did shift quicker, but it was a huge pain to tune. When you reach a certain level of power, the tranny doesn't respond to changes in shift points. It did some really wierd stuff.

Also, it only lasted 7k miles after the supercharger (55k total).

But, I did notice that the auto was faster on a boosted car.

Steel driveshafts are actually really light. They're hollow (of course) and have only a thin wall. I cut through an old one with an axe.

Thanks for all the input. I don't wanna put a shift kit in my auto. I want to turn lower rpms the 3k on the interstate is starting to melt my seal by the crank pulley just a lil bit. It wasn't like that before the 4.10's And just a tiny bit of oil is flung up under there now. Not close enough where I have to add anything. But enough to make it so i'm taking notice to it. I change my own oil, So I noticed it. I added some gasket maker around it to help some. I want to buy a carbon fiber driveshaft, But I don't know if it can be shortened and balanced when I get the manual. I'm going to spend about 2k around christmas, and I want to get one. Its like 600 shipped. I want to get a digital msd ignition thats like another 600
Exhaust is coming with this next check friday thats another 600. I want to get a new fuel pump and mass airflow sensor. Then I need some new tires 245/45z/17 probaly going to get some new proxies. That was my gt/5.0 money. But I wanna have a 6 that will really run.

Does anyone know where I can get a lightning 80mm maf and the adaptor to make it fit with my bbk fenderwell cold air intake.

When I do change my tranny fluid again in about 15k miles I wanna have installed a tranny cooler.

On performance shaft technologies website. I think our driveshafts would weigh 6 pounds before the yokes.

Onemanzu if the storm never hit. I would probaly make 7-8 at lowes. But everything pays well now because they need workers. If you could come do construction down here, you could make 10-15 an hour.

Fast food pays 8-10
construction 8-20 (experience)
Lowes (10-18)

But when I do the tranny swap, I'm going to get a 8.8 rear end with 3.73.

I want to get forged internals, and bore it out to 4.2. and ssm stage 3 power pak. But that will be this summer.
