New PA racing tubular kmember just came in...

Yea, i bet you expecting to see some pics, but i havent had a chance to take any yet, sorry. I will say that it looks like a very nice quality piece. Now on to my question...

On the stock v6 motor mounts there is a little round bump on the bottom behind the main bolt, i dont have access to my car with the stock kmember right now so i cant see if there is supposed to be some sort of indent for this, or if it is just ment to help keep the motor in place once it is properly tightened down. I held the new kmember (designed for 99-04 gt) up to my mounts and everything lines up fine, just the little bump on each side keeps me from being able to push the kmember completly into place. Im assuming the bumps just help hold it in place but thought i would ask just to make sure. If so, then it appears that the v6 and gt kmembers are EXACTLY the same, so why does every v8 swap switch them out?

This picture shows where the stock motor mounts attach to the cross
member.

I believe there is a "bump" on each motor mount that lines up with a hole in the cross member. I believe you could grind that "bump" off.

The V6 mustang and the GT mustang should NOT be the same. I believe the V6 K-member and an old 5.0 K-member SHOULD be the same. This changed back in 96 when Ford switched over to the 4.6L V8.

well i always thought that the v6's and v8 kmembers were not the same as well but after reasearching on 3.8mustang.com there were numerous people stating that they were 100% exactly the same the only difference is the motormounts. I concluded that the 79-95 is the same but requires aftermarket motormounts, and the 99-04 is the exact same. Other than these two tiny bumps it seems as if it will fit fine.

and yea stephen those holes are not in the location the bumps would go, and the bumps are much much smaller than those holes. the bumps are to the side of the motor mount bolt, i will take pics tonight

I believe the "bumps" you are referring to are shown in this picture on the right motor mount toward the back of the engine just behind the stud in the mount.

On the stock cross member the mount stud goes in the tapered slot and the "bump" goes in the slot behind it. At least one brand of after market cross member has a similar set up.

yea thats it, although its very hard to see in the picture. So there should be a provision for that? Think i can just grind it off and call it good?

I was looking at pictures of these tubular cross members on the internet yesterday and most of them seem to have a second slot for the "bump" thing on the motor mount.
