v6 and a s/c.. not a typical question

ok so i've been fighting with my stepdad about tuning for about 3 weeks now. he was gonna see if this guy from The Race Car Factory could have my ECU sent in and flashed by vortech for free. the guy called vortech and i guess was talking to the rep and he was saying that they did not sell many kits for 99-00/01 because some people could not get the car to run correctly and also the engine wasn't really designed well because everything is cast iron. Then the guy at the race car factory told him that i would be better off selling the s/c and everything on it and then going and buying a wrecked GT and swapping out the engine and transmission etc.... my step dad said he would do all the swapping and everything. now this sounds kind of appealing but i don't want to wait any longer and if we were going to swap everything i would just suggest selling my car and buying a GT. and plus my car only has 54,000 miles.

well my question is, would i really have a problem with getting it tuned? is it common for a v6 to blow up on the dyno tune... im thinking that if they could not get it tuned right im out what 300 bucks and i would just take everything off and sell it and then move forward from there.

first off sending an ECU off to be flashed isnt something I would do a tuner does the exact same thing but you can always reflash it without having to send it off again.

never heard of any of the problems you mentioned the 99-04 3.8 block is one of the toughest blocks ever produced by ford and does about 4 times better in stress tests over the 4.6 i dont see you having any problems with a well dyno tuned 7-9psi vortech

Why would you have a problem getting it dyno tuned? I don't understand why someone would tell you that as there are plenty of 6ers that are SC or turbo'd. As long as you can find a compotent tuner where you are at I don't see a problem with it, but someone else on here may have some better infomation for ya.

yeah I think the shop you went to just is used to working on carbs or something or doesnt think the v6 can make power so they see it as a waste of time, go somewhere else for sure. but yeah mustang ECU's are flash based so the tuner does the same thing as shipping it off but a lot more convenient you just got told a bunch of lies from mechanics that are outdated

go with a good tuning software that a local shop can tune on the dyno. the guy your dad talked to is an idiot. it is way easier to get a blower on a V6 then swap the drive train. just get the blower on and trailer it to a dyno and have it tuned.

yeah i just got an xcal 3

and he knows it would be easier. it wasn't hard at all for him to put the blower on my car. oh i was planning on just getting a canned tune and drive it there. it would be perfect if i can get it tuned either friday or saturday since i will be by where it's at anyways. the place is 2 hours away by my old college. and im going there this weekend to visit friends

Even though people have been saying bad things about him, i would call justin starkley at vmp tuning and see what he says. I got all my tunes no problem about two months ago and the service wasnt too bad. Its worth a shot

you wont blow on the dyno
the car is going to make about 240-250rwhp maybe.
you will not at all blow on the dyno with that power unless the tuner is horrible
and retarded

plus they'll only push it to like 5200
tell your dad theres a lil 390rwhp 6 that went to 6000rpms on the dyno with out an issue
(knock on wood)
