u joint going out?


Hey guys recently i was sitting in my car at school with the ac on and i hear like a vibration from the rear end i get out because it sounds like somthing is rattling in the trunk and its pretty loud outside the car it sounds like somthing tensing up? i dunno how to explain it .. so i looked under the car today and i grabed the driveshaft and i can move it is this normall being able to move the drive shaft like twist it just an inch or so but it moves any ideas maybe i could get a vid later?

when your driving check for vibrations from your steering wheel, then that could be a u joint problem... I remember when my u joint broke off i had hardcore vibration on the steering wheel

ya it does kinda vibrate so does my shifter is that a probleme?? how much does a new u joint cost with laber and everything?

well when i replaced mine i had to replace my rear shocks. parts and labor was $200.. i think a u joint is $15-30 im not sure how much labor is.

well your u-joint isnt even spinning, so its in your diff, spider gear maybe

the differential isn't spinning either. maybe something before the driveshaft?

well in the vid u can see that there was some fluid leakage i dunno from what but it was a brownish color and it wasent there before it started making noise i have never had a leak in that car.

It's not from the driveshaft or differential since they are not moving.

Could be from the engine, torque converter, or something touching in the exhaust.

See if you can tell where the noise is coming from.

my guess from vid is exaust leak or material from cat bangin around between cat and muffler? any one else. def not u joint cuz it aint movin...

i thought it had somthing to do with the drive shaft because you can see some fluid leaking and its never done that before.

In your video nothings moving though, in order for sounding to be coming from the diff your wheels have to be turning. It has to be something else, like what was said above exhaust leak, a rattle or something has come loose. You really just have to pin point that noise.

ya i took it to the shop i always go to and of course when i get there it dosen make the noise so i should him the vid on the comp and he said it was not in the rear he said it might be my exhaust vibrating againts somthing or other.
