Re: Some performance mods for my 99 v6?????
the main difference in the cold air intake designs are the materials that they are made of, there are composite intakes such as k&n and demolet. there are metal intakes such as MAC and BBK. the other difference is the filter placement, some like the MAC straightshot place the filter in the engine bay, where as the MAC fenderwell CAI places it in the fender. metal intakes are more prone to heat soak than the composites. however on your year mustang you have a metal upper and lower intake manifold that gets very hot. Personally I chose the MAC fenderwell kit and there is a picture of it in my garage link, but will say that you will want to keep wiping down the chrome or you will have rusting. gears are taughted as one of the biggest bang for your buck mods, basically you are multiplying your torque to the ground. there are many debate threads on here about gear ratio selection, but my personal opionion is if you are stocking and have an auto go 4.10 and a T5 go 3.73, but if you are blown and auto you will want to go 3.73...so once again you gotta do some pre-planning. another item to discuss is the rear end assembly itself, if you plan on making over 300hp you will want to swap rears with a like year GT or buy a new FRPP 8.8 for around $800 or you will start breaking. if you were to put slicks on the 7.5 it will break the spyder gears. if you need help finding parts look here: http://www.moddedmustangs.com/forums...st-vt3770.html

I ordered the pypes sfm52 product. The beast system is for gt's They said it flows to much for the 6 cylinder. That I wouldn't have enough back pressure. Research it some before you buy it. *** How do you like that exhaust? and as for the person who told me to buy the mac intake from betterairflow.com, there are three mac intakes for my year and model mustang, which do you reccomend? Also no one really mentioned if the programmer was worth the money. And i do not plan on having over 300 horsepower, or getting a turbo, and my car is a hard top, not convertible. I am planning to when its all said and done have: new headers, pypes exhaust sytem with x pipe , new gears (not sure if 3.73 or the 4.10) , mac cold air intake, maybe new underdrive pullies, maybe a programmer if you guys think they are worth it, and thats about it, i dont really want to do any *inside the engine* mods, or anything that would really compromise the reliablility of my car to much. So asuming i did the things listed above, how much horsepower do you think my car would have? I believe they have 180hp stock? |

as for cold air intakes, i recommend the fenderwell setups, the MAC kits are also compatible if your vehicle is equipped with the emissions package and has a smog pump in the passenger side fenderwell. do you have an automatic or manual transmission?

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/newv6m.htm and i was wondering how accurate are the horsepower ratings? I was thinking of over the next year or so purchasing the bottom 3 kits, and i was wondering how much power this would actually add all together, and if it would hurt or help mileage, and if it would make the car less reliable? Also how hard are each of those items to install? Could i do it myself? If not how much would it cost? And one last thing... a v6 with all those upgrades would be faster than a stock v8 right? |

as far as the rpm-outlet powerpacks go, you will want to get an ASP underdrive pulley and stay away from the motoblue one, do a few searches on here and you should run across the post from AB99 where his's warped and caused some problems in his car. all of those listed on rpm-outlet are bolt-ons and can be installed with basic handtools and jack/stands.
