aggravating noise in rear

aggravating noise

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ive been having a noise in my rear for a while now. while i was driving one day, i was going about 30mph and put the brake on normally. while doing so, i went over a dip in the road. coming off the bump, my car was making a weird noise. it is like a rotational noise as my car slows to a stop. its kinda like a whoo, whoo, whoo noise i guess. so we changed my rims and tires to see if the tire was messed up. not it!! its starts to disappear. recently i put upr chrome molly upper/lower control arms on and the noise is back. it sounded like a brake problem. that has been fixed as of today. not it once again!! i really dont know what it is. i dont think its a spyder gear in the differential because then the car wouldnt even move correct? when a gear is busted, it makes a grinding noise. and it would hum when i was on the interstate so i dont think thats the problem once again. so whats left? arent there axle bearings? it sounds like a bearing noise. or maybe a ujoint, although nothing near that area feels loose or anything. when i had my car up on jack stands, it sounded like it was coming from the driver side, another clue that it isnt a rear end gear or something. can someone please shed some light on the situation??? cause im about to ram my car into a wall soon. thanks guys.

if the spyder gears were chipped, the car would still drive, it would just be very apparent something is wrong, when you said it sounded like whoo whoo noise, first thing that popped in my head was brake pads are low and they are scratching rotor.

it is like a rotational noise as my car slows to a stop. its kinda like a whoo, whoo, whoo noise i guess.

If it's only when you apply the brakes, then it may be a warped rotor or worn pads as previously suggested.

There are also axle shaft bearings, but that shouldn't be just when stopping.

You may have had your axle bearings go out. Mine did and it sounds exactly like you are describing. I had to order new axles because the bearings gouged it. Also, just because you feel it in the front does not mean it is coming from there. The first time my bearings went out I thought it was the front hub assemblies. Alot of vibration will travel all over the vehicle, so it may come from anywhere. Lift up the rear end again and check the wheel travel with the brakes off, if your tires moves freely, its the bearings.

the noise is back when you but on the new upper and lower controls due to the fact that they transfer noise better in the the vehicle. there have been a couple of people at my work that come in why i noise concern and we road test hear the noise and check and found new control arms what we do is swap over to stock and retest and no noise. the new controls arm have bushings that help travel the noise inward.
