Just Got Me a Mustang - Looking For a Few Minor Mods

It's a 2001 model and it's black (favorite car color). There's a few things I need to deal with. The headlights are cloudy, dull, yellow worn out. I want some really good headlights. It kind of makes a huge difference to the looks of the front of the car. What's some really good lights? I was thinking about the darker mustang cobra style lights unless you have something better to suggest

Also, what do you think of a billet grill vs standard grill? My 99 aniversary edition mustang had a billet and looked pretty good.

In my opinion Halo projectors look really nice on 99 - 04 style mustangs as far as headlights go.

The billet grill comes down to preference I guess. Some people like them. Some people dont. I'd look around the forums. Your bound to find someone on here that has it.

Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle is a good place to look for mustang parts online.

Welcome to the forums

+1 ^
did it on my wifes eclipse headlights, they looked brand spankin new, or if you dont want to spend the near 20, get the mothers mag and tire stuff from the wash and wax aisle, and then just buff your current headlights with that, it does basically the same thing.

works only on the outside and rarely does at that, if it is yellowed the only way to fix them is to open up the headlight and soak the lenses in acetone, better to buy new ones

here you go, for headlights go to Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle and get either the chrome clear corner or the smoked clear corner headlights. billet grill is a big mustang no no. either keep your stocker or go to Mustang Parts & Performance - American Muscle and buy the 3-piece mach 1 grill delete. also the biggest appearance mods youll ever do to your car will be rims, tint and lowering springs

Thanks guys I'll check it out. I have a need for one more peice of advice..

The finish in the hood is kind of faded, so we used some kind of rubbing compound (for vehicles) to try to get it a little better. It did work but there's still some "cloudiness" on the hood. And MAN was it hard. Took alot of time and energy. Still not happy though.

A dogs paws left some scratches on the side door, so I used the compund again to get the scratches out. It got the scratches out but that rubbing compund also left kind of a dull spot right there where i rubbed. I been using turtle wax trying to get rid of it completely. You can only see the faded spot on the side when you look at a certain angle.

What can I do to solve the above problem on the hood and the spot i left on the side door? Suggestions? It makes me sad! Just bought the car yesterday!

Thanks
Brandon

I have the black crystal smoked headlights that are totally clear smoked headlights. And I use the 8000k lights with them. I love them. I had projections, and I didnt like them, but I may not have had the best set out there.

I would suggest the Mother's three phase system. I have been using it for a few years now, but I have to say that it is the best I have ever used and I have tried everything. The system removes wax cleans the surface and re-waxes it. I would also suggest a mother's clay bar. they work real nice. You can not go wrong with Mother's three phase system found at most auto part stores.

Thanks again y'all

The rubbing compound I used is made by turtle wax. "Heavy duty cleaner" "removes scratches and stains".

Right now I'm mainly upset about the dull spot it did to the side of the car door more than the hood.. The door was ALL perfect. Like I said, you can't see the dull spot I made unless at an angle. I guess the rubbing compound has a fine gritty ingredient in it?(which caused the dull scratchy spot) I only rubbed for a few seconds and then let it sit for a few seconds. then took it off. Then bam, I had a dull spot on my door about 4x4 inches big. Multiple applications of regular turtle wax (not rubbing compound) isn't working to fix the spot.

This is the first time I've owned a black car, and it seems like black cars require a special attention due to their color... Speedfreak.. Mother's three phase system might work for me? Where's a good place to get it?

As far as some new headlights. I think I like these: eBay Motors: 1999 2000 2001 2002 FORD MUSTANG 4.6 V6 HEADLIGHTS PAIR (item 350110252284 end time Oct-21-08 14:16:35 PDT) ..$85 for the pair. is there a catch? Will these work for my mustang without me doing some other mod?

I just read somewhere that Meguiar's Direct ScratchX® would solve the problem of the swirly scratchy patch on my door left from the rubbing compound. So I guess I'll check that stuff out tomorrow.

I like the ones you chose also; they look great!
I gave you a list on my minor mods, they don't do anything to get me more horsepower but they sure look pretty!
