What are smog pumps?
... i have to rip the fron end of my car apart... and i figure hell i might as well replace some things and do some maintanence stuff while im their... so i was just wondering what it did...
and can it be removed/ eliminated?

smog pumps are used for emissions. Basically they take up room and make your exhaust cleaner....you can delete it all together of get one of those delete kits with a pulley if you want to run the same belt.

I heard that your cats might get plugged quicker without the smog pump. I'm pretty sure they're full of crap. Just get rid of the stupid thing. If my 98 had a smog pump, I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago.

well get you an off road midpipe and then there is definitely no need for the smog pump. I believe that is the purpose of it, but dont know how well it works.

well smog pumps can be removed on older model cars (Classic) i have a 72 Impala Custom and Removed it Because i dont need to smog my car to renew my Tag's, but if you remove your im 100% sure you will not pass smog because your allowing more Raw Fuel to Pass threw the Cats and into the Air, i Suggest You Dont Remove it but Thats My Opinion

yo man i still suggest you dont remove your smog pump bud not a good idea, sure it lesson's up some lag on the belt so everything will spin faster but emmission's goes out the door and when you gotta smog it you will not pass so part of me hopes you listen but i dont know how your DMV is out there and the rules about smog so ???

what DMV all they do is hand out liscens... they don't do smogs up here ... ill leave it on till i start heavily modding my car... like when i get the new block installed...
