The pro's around here will say its easy. Since Im not a pro, I will say it was a serious pain in the ass. They were hard to get at and the hole was impossible to see. I suppose if you had the correct rachet extension it would make the job quite easy. I didnt so it was a bitch trying to get to them. Especially the ones close to the fire wall. I even had trouble getting the wire onto the plug right. I did get it done but it took me alot of "knuckle skin" and a few choice cus words.
BTW- I was sold on getting an upgraded wire. The day I went to Autozone, they were sold out of MSD. I went ahead and bought the autozone brand and they have performed just fine. I cant remember which ones, but there are certain plugs that do not work well in our cars. Make sure you do the research. |

stock wires, motorcraft or autolite copper plugs, get a 12in extension and a good spark plug socket and it is easy

First you need to remove the air tube on the passenger's side. Then a 5/8" socket, a 4 or 6" extension, and a ratchet are all you need.
For the one on the drivers side near the firewall, #6, put the spark plug socket on it then install the ratchet. The engine should be cold otherwise you may get burns off the manifolds. Put a little bit of aluminum antiseize on the plug threads before reinstalling them and start them by hand using the sparkplug socket. They go back pretty much by feel, since they are under the manifold. They tighten to ~15 ft lbs, which is moderately tight with a 3/8" ratchet. |

The only one thats hard is the one, when looking at the engine from the front, the far passenger one. Take your intake off your throttlbody and move it to the side. Then using your left arm and putting your right hand atop your intake manifold (make sure its not hot), bend down nice and far and use your fingers. I cannot stress the importance of starting a sparkplug in with your hands. DO NOT use a fucking rachet and extension until you have made sure that the plug is seated and in there snug. You will strip the threads if you dont.

Im pretty sure the brand to avoid in our 6ers is Bosch. Let someone here verify that first but Im pretty sure they do not do well in our cars.

Basic oems are the best way to go. Lets face it, these arent monster motors, most of us are pretty stock engine wise. |

I bought those Bosch and brought them home. Before I installed them, I mentioned them here. I was told by HMUSN and a few other I think to take them back. I did. I took them right back to AZ and I think I ended up buying the Autolite. The plugs have been perfect.

bosch blow. and you can get at the back passenger one without taking the tb off; you will need to take your intake off though, but thats kinda obvious. I had taylor wires on my 3.8, and they worked fine, although summit took their sweet ass time getting them to me, and they were expensive, and i had a screamin demon coil pack, but thats only because my stock one went bad on me. in my opinion, the coil pack isn't worth a damn. the best plug i've used in a 3.8 was autolite.

since its so cheap, i would do it every 20k. You have to watch the spark plug wires though, they get super brittle from heating/cooling so many times. They will come apart. Id do sparkplug wires after 50k.

pluging it right.
When I bought mine, it came with a set of Bosch Platinums, and the tips had been burnt down to almost nothing.
The engine had a strange skip in one cylinder, and it bothers me when my engine doesn't sound right. I installed a set of NGK Iridium just like the ones I had in my Motorcycle. I really didn't see any improvement to speak of, and the engine still had that Annoying skip. Monday I poured a pint of SeaFoam into the fuel tank, and that skip is now gone. I have always liked Autolites. They seem to last forever, and many times I have just cleaned them, and put them back into the motor.

take those back. Didnt you listen to the comments above? our cars are not designed to run on a platinum. They are designed to run on a basic copper plug. They are a dollar a peice, basic, and work the BEST.

I believe the original equipment plugs are Autolite platinum and they are supposed to last as much as 100K miles.
I believe you are supposed to replace the plugs and wires at 100K intervals. In my experience the plugs last more like 70K miles. |
