9k to spend
ok so like the title suggest, I am getting about 4k from my grandmother for my 20th birthday and will have about 5 and some change when the summer comes to work on my car. Now I already know there are going to be those that say SELL IT AND GET A GT... well thats just not an option, this car already has about 5k put into it and I dont want to pay for v8 insurance just for the badge. I know the six has got potential just not sure how to go about this.
the performance shop I was talking to kept trying to talk me into getting a junked out GT for like 3k and then swaping everything over that would cost me toal about 6 to 7k. now I know the six can handle ALOT and just takes the knowledge to get it. I probably have too many questions to ask in just one post but basically I want to know whats the best way to go about staying with a six (not necessarily my six but maybe a v6 swap so dont need new mounts and wires) or using the six ive got and build off of it. maybe a list would be better. 1. Is the 3.8 block i have a good foundation to start from? 2. should I go with a 4.2L or 4.3L from some place like SSM 3. what all else aside from just motor can I do with this much now I already have the following mods: (not everything is ofcourse a performance mod) 4:10 gears with T-Loc CAI droped 2.5 in 18" rims Saleen body kit Cobra R hood Tinted 20% Dash mounted tac w/ shift light true duel exhaust Please dont flame this post with the "just get a v8" responces, I already know that I am not willing to do that more then likely thanks in advance for any help given it is much apreciated sorry forgot to list that it is a 04 3.8L 5 speed |

I got pics of my car just got to find my way around the site to link them,
im still mostly resarching to get a exact list of what to do to the car but for the most part was thinking a stage 3 powerpack from SSM, LT ceramic headers, and if i can find a good place to stroke it out to a 4.2L not sure on exacts but with install I was thinking that would cost me maybe about 7k? |

With more info on what exactly you want to do and have the capability to do i can tell you more exactly, but im sure further post will clear that up.
First off why do you have a dash mounted tach??!! im sorry i mean a dash mounted tachy (sorry, had to get that out of my system) I seems to me that you already know a bit. Yes the essex block is strong and a good platform. If i wanted to build the ultimate v6 mustang for myself i would do this: -get a 4.3L with a cam from ssm -port 'n polish it -fab a kick ass intake mani with other random better than stock parts for the intake assembly -get a 11psi kit from procharger if i dont decide to TT it(what i would rather do for obvious hp and tuning reasons) -strip all unnecessary accessories -get a 8.8 rear and strengthen/mod it -do what ever suspension mods and tire/wheel mods for it it needs foir what it will do -tune it however the best way a could -take out back seat so i can carry my race stuff in it it would have about 500hp s/c and possible a whole lot more if t/c

ok the kicker of it all is this will still be a daily driver, now i know by doing all this i will suffer in mpg, but still need it street legal and hopfully start at or above 15mpg lol
basic outcome is hopefully agble to either stay with or beat a stock 04 cobra (that might be a big stretch) or atleast a modded gt if i can. |

with a turbo and proper tuning, theoretically you should be able to 'turn off' the boost adding quite a bit to gas milage, and with the FI cam on a "n/a" or low boost car, i think you should be within the accepable range for mpg. though id imagine it wont be all that great, but hell'uv a lot better than an old muscle car. Maybe some body who know what a stroked essex is like will chime in.
but why the dash mounted tach man?

oh as for the tach, was not my choice, came with the car from the previous owner, i dont really care for it but nor do i really want to stare at the 2 big holes it will have if i take it out, its kinda the lesser of 2 evils i guess. been trying to figure a good way to get rid of it but performance is up on the table now and looks is basically done for the most part till the car has a bit more bite.

also, might i add in addition to the tach, that you will also catch grief for your "saleen" windshield banner on a car that is not a saleen, a quick fix would be a "MODDEDMUSTANGS.COM" windshield banner.
edit: snuck it in on me there. Yeah i see your point about the holes, but im sure we'll find a way to remedy that. btw, your car does look good. And you wouldnt happen to have emissions testing by any chance, cause that would suck.

she passes emmissions fine its the tint that i have to jump through hoops with, the Saleen stickers came with the kit and it did not seem right to have the kit and not put them on, besides even if its not a saleen once im done with it she should be close to or as fast as one if all goes well

what i meant by emissions testing is that if you do have to do it it will severely limit your mod potential for a streetable car unless you find ways to "cheat."
