Smelled like burning noodles (antifreeze)

I was on my way home one day and I smelt something terriable....so I looked around and I didnt think it was me. well at the next red light I nocitced a little smoke coming from under my hood. so I stopped and poped my hood.

Turn to find out there was Anitifreeze every where...it was all over the engine and everything (hint where the smell was coming from) well I messed with it for awhile and checked for leaks and everything but nothing.

so I went home and its been fine. What I really think it is, is that its really old anitifreeze and it times to change it....so Im going to drain it and put some new stuff in it. but do you guys think it could be anything else?

just check all connections while its running and look for any leak....even tap the throttle a lil to see if it is more or any under throttle...

Did it overheat? If so it may have burst the pressure cap (real name?) on the radiator.

it might have been coming out of your overflow tank. Its that big yellowish tank beside your radiator. That tank is not supposed to read full when the car is cool, only when hot. There should be a "full when cold" "full when hot" line.

something that i learned... when the engine has just started, squeeze hoses and see if the added pressure forces coolant out those lines. This has helped me a number of times in the past.

also, i think that it smells like syrup when it burns. I would burn antifreeze for fun if it didn't have side effects

Blondie! Hey, if you seen antifreeze "everywhere" , you got troubles. You have a leak somewhere and its not going to go away on its own. Its going to catch up with you again at a really bad time when you are far away from home. Have someone look at it before it gets worse or strands you in an unsafe place.

BTW---- When that needle on the temps starts going up, STOP and pull over immediately. Dont drive on it even 10 feet when that needle is real far to the right. Our engines are particulaly vulnerable to destruction with overheating. Just pull over and shut it right off. Pop the hood and let it cool way down. I had a hose blow a few months ago and actually drove it about 50 yards at a time turning it on and off while waiting for it to cool. Even that is risking major damage.

See if you can get someone to look at it to be safe.

+1

It really does suck when you have a leak. My old car had one and it was the longest trip home ive ever had. Usually to get from work to home it takes 5-10 mins. It was even really cold outside i would say around 0 and the needle moved to the red so quick. The car was a POS so i started throwing snow on the engine because i could only drive like 20 seconds and the needle would bounce right back to the red. Long story short it took me about 1.5-2 hours to get home. Trust me i would make sure theirs nothing wrong with it because you dont want to be in a place where your stuck.

That happened to me a few months back...turned out I had a tiny pin sized hole in the radiator. It sprayed coolant once there was enough pressure and ended up getting all over also, prolly being flung by the cooling fan all over the moving parts. I never woulda seen it if I hadnt pulled out the resevoir and cooling fan to take a look

just wondering, when you replaced the cap do you mean that "you got a new one"? if so is aftermarket or did you get it from ford? ive had experience with aftermarket caps and it is better going the factory route with rad caps.
