V6 SHO Drop Swap Hop ???
Hey???
Any of you ever dropped a Taurus Sho V6 into a Mustang? I've been talking to a man who just did a sho Dune Buggy. Seeing all the insults for answers, maybe I should be the one to get in the first swing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If your IQ does not exceed a double digit go ahead, and shit on my dream!!! Prove that you are a product of incest inbreeding, and spit out aspersions!!!

Q&A
A V6 SHO might allow for more room for a S/C, Turbo, headers, ect.
Weight of aluminum VS Cast Iron. HP to weight ratio. Turns going downhill. Changing the entire front end suspension: springs, ect,.. The insurance on a V6 cost so much less than a V8. Now, I've been talking to the guys down at the auto parts store, and they are in Love with the SHO engine. Funny thing, every one of them has a Mustang. I am only asking questions to feel out the situation to see if it is cost effective plausible. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

if you drop an 8 into your sixer youll still be paying v6 insurance. and also the weight can easily be offset by tubular suspension pieces, battery relocation, etc

insurance will be no different on a v6 vs v8, the drop will cost you a good 3-4k in custom fab work not even counting the parts, also the swap will not be street legal since no mustnag or modle comparable to a mustang has ever come with a Yamaha engine in it, as well as you will not be able to find one that is your year model or newer.

You could always just keep your motor and do a twin turbo setup. There is a '02 v6 near my town that is getting about 460rwhp off a twin turbo setup. Don't know much more about what he has other then its fast as all hell.

I agree! IN$ & $$$ front-end & $$$ & $$$,.. … … …
If my name were Donald Trump I wouldn’t need to ask these question, nor would I bother. Tell me; what will the insurance company do when you crack-up, and it comes time for them to pay-off? Will they cry Fraud? Will they speak the words: “Felony?” Now-a-days, if you fart in an elevator: you are a terrorist. This is only the discussion phase of the dream. I don’t have all the answers, that’s why I am asking these questions here on this forum. It seems that I am answering more questions than I am asking. I was just wondering if anyone here has done this kind of swap: what problems did they have; and what trani was used. Hasn't anybody ever heard of a Pony SHO? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My dad had a NICE 89 SHO. He has a few parts cars still i think. He owens dwights auto repair on waverly my smith tool. He gets all types of shit for the wrecker service that hes partners with. But he sold the SHO bc its hard toget parts for it, no parts store carried clutches for that year. and for some reason alot of people like SHOs in ponca. it must be the water.

thats the problem with those engines that parts are hard to get and very expensive.you could do a twin turbo 3.8 for less tha what you could do a SHO swap.
especially if you get a pair of turbocoupe turbos and flip the exhaust manifolds, you will need more parts than that but if you can fabricate or know someone who can youll save some cash and have something different.

If you do any work at all to your car, let your insurence know about it and make sure to get paper work about it along with photos. The worst thing you can do is not tell them about what you have done. Thats when you get left out in the cold.

Well, today I lost the transmission out of my 1998 Taurus V8 SHO. The Taurus transmission is not worth rebuilding. My 1999 Taurus Station Wagon cost $2000 to have a replacement transmission installed, and then I got less than one year use out of it.
Know this: when you smell burning rubber coming from under the hood, your Taurus transmission is doomed!!! I will search out an engine swap guide that will change my 01 convertible mustang into a real Sho Pony. A Taurus Sho easily cruises at 90 MPH, and can Zip to 140 very quick. You might think you are traveling at 65 but beware, you could be going 80 without even knowing it. It happens to me all the time.

I'm doing an SHO swap to a 2000 V6 Convertible right now.
The -only- reason I am doing it is because it is different. The SHO is not an engine for the inexperienced or the feint of heart. However, it is built to incredibly high standards and is nearly indestructible. You can easily wind it up to 8500rpm if you switch to MR2 electric power steering (which I am also doing). Also, you're gonna spend some $$$ on everything if you want to try this swap. Examples of $$$: Adapter plate from motor to trans: $250 Custom flywheel: $400 Custom oil pan: $arm Custom engine mounting plate/brakets: $leg Wiring EEC-IV motor to EEC-V: $breathtaking (I had to make a 36-1 trigger wheel and machine a cam position sensor) If I'd wanted to, I could have dropped anything in to this car. I chose the SHO engine (haters gonna hate) because it was different, kinda cool, and challenging. For a V6, it has a good exotic sound. Oh, add to that list a custom exhaust system. Custom headers, resonator, SBR, and dual vibrants at the end. And it still isn't complete. Like I said, not for the feint of heart. But I'll share what I have learned with you if you want to try it. Also, someone else (mg man 75?) is doing the SHO swap in to a fox, his is further along. -ZachsV6

The extra 15hp out of the 3.4L SHO V8 isnt worth it over the V6. The V6 also has more mods redily availible, such as cams, big bore butterflies, supercharger, forged internal parts, lightweight flywheel, etc.
If you wanted to hang onto your SHO, do a 5 speed swap from a Mazda 6 (A65M-R transmission) Its pretty much a bolt in trans for the SHO V8's and much more durible than the weak little automatic. Also, does your V8 have the cams welded?

Wow! I had no Ideal there would me so many problems with this swap. I figured it would take a new set of motor-mounts, and the rest would bolt in like plug-n-play. Thanks for the heads up. I have two Mustangs, and they have nowhere near the power, and speed of my SHO.
After seeing the Ranger SHO swap, I figured to go with the same transmission setup, and bolt in setup. Thanks for the Mazda-6 info. I don't know about the the engine having cam welds, or not. It is a bone stock 98. When I found out the valve cover gasket was $65.xx I just tighten down my bolts a little, and that is the only thing I ever had to do to fixing this engine. One thing I can say for sure: ... when you lift the hood of a SHO you are looking at one real pretty engine.
