tapping noise help?

I have a 95 v6 mustang planing on putting a 5.0 someday but for now trying to keep the v6 running smooth, whenever i give the car a little gas a tapping noise starts to make noise. At an idle not much noise just a little ticking sound, but soon as i put some pedal on the car i hear a tapping noise keep getting louder and louder as i give it more gas. I have considered, valves tapping or sticking, pistons, rockers worn, lifters? I have tried to flush the motor out with some slick 40 but no dice. Any ideas what this noise could be caused from?? Planning to pull apart the motor this upcoming summer just want to know where to start looking for problems for anyone who has fixed this kind of problem before. Any suggestions would be greatly apprieciated. thankss

exhaust leak or sprak knock change your plugs

yea, exhaust leak is possible. Its common find in our cars that the manifold rusts.

Do you feel power loss?

Could be your lifters tapping like you said. Id have to hear it.

check the manifolds for leaks , if they arent leaking then I would speed up the 5.0 swap plans

it could be the exhaust had the whole setup change to a dual cat back exhaust and this noise was there before i even changed the whole exhaust styem. and the sound seems to be coming form the valve covers when listening to the noise. And no, i havn't noticed any power loss. Im thinking it might be the lifters. Its really hard to describe the sound when giving it gas its like a sprinkler sound with some tapping. Not much noise at an idle just ticking. This is my second motor for this car last motor died headgasket went trying to keep this rebuilt running.

hope not been driving with this sound for like 5 months now and hasn't gotten worse just kinda annoying now. Its more noticible now because its colder so its a louder sound then before.
