engine temp and oil temp off Reset?

Engine Temp and Oil temp have been off for years. Never in the center. I remember a few weeks ago seeing some talking about a "hard reset" where you disconnect the negative and touch it to the positive.. or was it you disconnect both and touch them together and reconnect them?

Either way, which ever way is correct, does anyone thing that will reset the guages? or will I just be wasting my time? What Will reset the guages and how?

A hard reset is when you take both cables off the battery, and connect them together, greenfaleen was talking about it.

same as leaving the negative disconnected and hanging for 15 minutes, it just clears all the power/energy in the system, this causes that computer to reset cause it needs a constant power supply.

well that method has never fixed this issue. If you are saying the one dgt_mustang mentioned is the same, what other way could the guages be reset ?
