Flush auto trans????

I have a '99 Mustang V-6 with AOD trans. My shop guy told me I should have the trans flushed (for $150). The car has 87,000 miles and has been regularly serviced except for the trans and is lightly driven. Grocery getter.

Should I get the trans flushed? I have seen web sites that say no, it will only dislodge trash and make things worse and I have seen sites that say do it every 30,000 miles.

How about draining and replacing the fluid and replacing the filter? Is there a drain plug on the torque converter?

Thanks for any help.

You can try drain it and replace the filter. But if your tranny if working fine, why trouble it?

this is a regular service interval job. every 90k miles (i believe- but there is an article i wrote around here that tells when you need to do it, what fluid to use, and how much...)

... if he flushes it make sure he does an excellent job... or you could ask him to double flush it... do that all again... if its possible... for the same price...

every 30K miles or sooner! Personally, I would drop the pan, change the filter, drain the torque converter( there is a drain plug in it that is accessed through the round rubber plug in the bottom of the bellhousing) and refill w/ 12 qts of mercon 5 fluid.
