If you have ordered from bamachips

and have not received your order...

you may want to consider disputing ASAP. Here is my experience:

I ordered a CAI & tuner combo on 12/5/09. That's 30 days ago. I know from reading this and other forums that there are people out there who have waited even longer than that.

My first thoughts were to take into consideration the personal issues that Doug is dealing with and to cut it some slack and try to be patient.

BUT...$600 is $600!!! Small change to some - but not to me.

He is not responding AT ALL to emails. I do believe the house of cards is collapsing and he is going out of business. I don't know this for fact but the evidence points to it.

I placed my order through paypal. My paypal account is linked to my discover card. I first went to Discover to dispute. With them, you have 90 days to dispute a charge, but you can't dispute until 30 days after the delivery date.

Bamachips' website says that most orders are filled within 15 business days from the order date so I have not yet waited long enough to dispute with Discover.

However, Discover wants you dispute with paypal first, and fall back to them as a last resort. So...on to the paypal site. Here's where it gets interesting.

You must dispute with Paypal before 45 days from the order. Fortunately I am still within that time frame. First step is to file a dispute. Then they contact the vendor. If it is not resolved, then you open an actual claim.

I filed my dispute and immediately got a message that said "the vendor is not able to respond to this dispute". Therefore I was instructed to file a claim. I have done so. Paypal then says they will do their best to resolve the issue with the vendor and TRY to recover and funds possible. So there is no purchase protection here.

The claim stays open for 30 days before they can even tell you if you're shit out of luck and to take it up with your credit card. I do believe Discover provides purchase protection and will credit funds back but you probably have to wait a period before that happens too.

Which basically means I'm probably waiting 30 to 60 days to recover the money I lost BEFORE I place a new order with some other vendor like brenspeed or whoever...and then wait around some more to get that order filled.

If you have ordered from Bamachips and are sitting on the fence trying to decide what to do...I suggest taking action because it may already be too late.

Its good you have the paypal and cc protection, at least its not money right out of your pocket... Sorry to hear you have a bad exp with them, If you need any mail order tunes, I would try SCT X3 LiveWire Dyno Performance Chips LaSota Racing Ford Tuning Index they have been around for 20 years tuning, and DOn actually wrote a ton of the SCT software and is a trainer for SCT..

you have showed no evidence that his buisness is going down the shitter and shouldn't accuse the man of such without actuyal hard evidence...

before you start pointing fingers and accusing, did you maybe take into account that the man might be on vacation or was on vacation?

you said you placed your order on the 5th, and that they ussually get filled in 15 buisness days..... well if the man went on vacation on the 20th he might not have gotten to your order yet.....

i seem to remember threads like this last year regarding bama.... the dude is flooded with work constantly, especially during the winter when everyone and there brother is modding there cars in the down time and need new tunes

Thanks for the reference, rodeheavers. When the time comes to order from someone else I will look into that as well as any and all other options out there.

For those reading this, keep in mind that I do not believe there are any price protection guarantees with paypal. They merely state that they will TRY to get your money back. I have a feeling I will be relying on Discover to cover the loss - if they even will.

I consider the fact that paypal cannot even get hold of him to start the informal dispute process to be evidence of such.

If he is a one man show and is on vacation - update the website and let your customers know. The website is his face to the world, and it says nothing to the effect that he is seasonally slow or any other kind of excuse.

do you know how paypal attempts to get a hold of him?

through email.

now if he hasn't gotten to your emails, how do you think he's gonna get to the paypal ones first.

you have no evidence.....

there is more than the 05-09 section in which Doug sells to. Maybe the rest of the board would like to see this?

I have spoken to Doug on numerous occasions, and he is a very upstanding guy. Give him some time. He will get back to you. I'm with Rags on this one.

Here's the thing, Rags:

Of course I know that paypal tries to contact through email. What I'm saying is that the response from paypal was immediate - not "lets give it couple of days and wait for a response". This pretty much tells you that there is no open channel even for them to make an inquiry.

I do not doubt that Doug is a great guy, and I sure wouldn't want to be going through all of his problems right now. Bad things do happen to good people.

Read my post again: I said I do not know for a fact that he is out of business but in my opinion the evidence is pointing that way.

The FACT is, though, that $600 is a lot of money to most people and you lose your dispute rights through paypal in 45 days. If my paypal account was funded with cash, like I'm sure many are, I wouldn't have my CC to fall back on. I'm glad I've at least got that.

ok, but on day 45 paypal doesn't say "fuck off" if you have already filed a dispute.

paypal is designed to protect the buyer, not the seller. what WILL eventually happen if doug fails to rectify the claim, is that they will deduct whatever money is in his account, and if that isn't enough, will go after whatever account he has linked to his paypal until your money is refunded.

i've seen it happen many times before

I'll tell you this: I'd love to be wrong here. I'd rather be a fast ass than slow and right. Meaning I would rather have the product than the money, but yeah, I want to protect my buyer's rights.

i started a thread in the 05-09 section about this same thing yesterday. i was having the exact same problem. i was provided a link to an official apology from doug at bamachips. i will tell you this, the man is up to his neck in personal problems and his business is on the backburner. do yourself a favor and go ahead and dispute the charge. doug probably won't be getting around to doing any work for awhile.

Easy remedy for all of this. Find a local tuner and get your work done. Everyone bitches about when they don't have someone local to tune, but they will mail order some bullshit tune to save a few bucks any time they get a chance.

What if you live in a area, like myself, that doesn't have a tuner worth a shit?

I'll be doing all my own tuning with the help of a more experienced tuner remotely simply because I don't trust anyone around here. I could go to Chicago, there are a couple tuners there I would trust. Which is about 3 hours away, but I want to do this myself so I know exactly who to blame when/if things go south. Myself.

The only thing is, with a bolt on 3V, it doesn't make sense to spend $400 for a dyno tune when the $50 mail order tunes have been proven to be spot on.

If you have a power adder, or more serious stuff besides your intake and tune, then by all means get a dyno tune, but for basic bolt ons, it doesn''t make sense.
