AM experience....meh?

So giving them the beneift of the doubt I ordered my new projector headlights from AM, despite the higher costs.. I got them and as suspected they are of the same "less than great" quality of 'ebay lights'.. some of the rubber molding was not even attached, or ripped coming off, the internal housing of the bulbs is weak, and the design is pretty flawed as you can barely remove the low beam bulb without breatking it..

This is likely not AMs fault, I'm sure some company in Japan makes the projector lights and sends them to everyone, they look the same on every site and ebay store.. So I'm sending them back.. of course I have to pay shipping to return the item becase "nothing is wrong with them" aside from the loosly attached molding on the outer casing.. not to happy about that, I'm sure it won't be cheap to ship that big @$$ box, but a least I know now if it looks like everything else it probablly is....

Customer service was ok when I called. I first emailed (because I prefer email, I don't like taking time to talk to people. with stuff like this) but they replied to my email and told me to call.. short hold time, and the guy gave me an RMA and a return shipping address.. no trying to sell me something else or 3rd degree on me returning them

So.. it is what it is..

At least they were compliant and didn't give you too much hassle. In my experience with AM, their customer service is pretty top-notch.

Sucks you're not happy with the projectors.

Contact AMNick or AMStanger. I'm sure they'll get everything fixed up and make it right if it's a manufacturer defect. They seem to move things along fairly quickly like returns, etc.

I don't really thing there is anything 'wrong' with the product, it' poorly manufactured, it's crappy to begin with, again not AMs fault.. truth is everyone sells the same thing unless they make it..

yeah.. I've got some now, and I don't like them the quaility is poor, and they are basically 'broken' so I got these to replace them and put in HIDs.. which isn't really possible with the H1 bulb location.. so that with the overall lack of quaility led me to just order some OEM clears.. and a new HID kit..

for the price they will match it with any other site if its the same item, they did that with my flowmaster mufflers @ 67 bucks vs there 80 bucks. Quality wise I love the things I have gotten, just there is a lack of directions.

Projector lights don't work with HID kits to the best of my knowledge, which will explain one of the issues you were having. Also, if you'll send me a pm with your order information I'll take a look at your order and see what I can do for you. It sounds like the lights were defective, and if that's the case, you shouldn't have to pay for shipping them back to us.

the HIDs would work just fine, it's just the design, there is no room to barely get your finger into the housing much less put in a longer (HID) bulb. just pulling out the stock H1 you have to immediatly angle the bulb, and pry it out while trying not to shatter it aginst the housing.. it's just a poor design.. The H3 (highs) would be easy becuase the back actually opens there.. and you can't remove the entire housing back becuase it's glued or siliconed from the inside, even though there are pressure clips that make it appear like you should be able to remove it...

Dopped the box off at ups already.. it was $18.04..

I would have made a bigger deal about 'defective' but from I think it's more of a poor quaility issue.. it looks like that entire 'seal' around the outter edge is superguled on anyway, it's inconsistant throughout, and the way the bulbs are 'held into place' is cheezy, like a bent paperclip with a tiny retaining clip, I know my Roush H10s have a real nice locking style much better

.. I'll PM you my order num and RMA.. at least you guys can look into it, I'm not a dick, I knew my odds when I ordered them....

here you can see how the access is limited, the rear only gives access to the H3 bulb housing, the H1 (low) is on the left side and there is maybe 1/2 between the back and the rear bulb wire, the wiring even uses an "L" connector becuase there is no room for a standard one..

here you can kind of see where the 'clip' is indicating you could remove the entire rear housing giving you easy access if it was glued.

Which, roughly translated, means 'projector lights won't work with HID kits', right? I'll check my pm's and look into your order to see what I can do for you.

With an $200+ AM HID Kit for the mustang? Probably Not! But you can get HID kits with just the bulb and ballast in any size.. which is what I did.. I could have put in the H3 Bulbs (HID) just fine... and if I wanted to I could have chopped the housing on side so I could access the bulb retention like most would expect to be able to; and put the H1 in and just made sure I sealed the casing again for the water protection.. But that's too much work that I shouldn't have to do. you shoudl be able to have access to the rention and bulbs without destroying the casing.

I got your pm and took a look at your order. If you fax or email us your receipt, we'll refund you for the cost of shipping the lights back to us.

Our projector lights are sold with the intention that they won't be used with HID lights, we even mention on our website that these lights aren't designed to be used with HID bulbs. Unfortunately, we don't participate in that design process, so we don't have a way to alter the rear portion of the lights to account for easier access. I'm sorry you're not happy with the lights or the way they're designed, and for any inconvenience this caused you.

i got mine from headlight depot... got 2 sets from them due to g/f wrecking the car and they were as good as i could ask for. Never condensation and everything looked/fit good. And thats coming from someone that has seen LOTS of aftermarket parts, some shitty and some good (dad owns body shop). I would def get them again. Same lights in my sig.

Thanks Baker.. I grabbed some "oem style" clears on ebay for under $100, they look good, I've sealed them, HID kit is coming.. we'll see once I get it all togehter..

I will say one thing, they fit a lot better than the proj I have now (same as the AM ones).. they are a lot tighter fit..
