Shoot'n Jap Cars Down!

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...2&q=saab&hl=en

In my opinion and most euro car tuners the japanese small diplacement engines that have been hyped such as the supra's and the slyline's are nothing special. sure any engine has potential, but these two particular engines are supposed to be the pinnacle of jap tech and for obvious reasons take well to modding. Well, people who work with many euro engines know the truth, that this jap tech only constitutes a normal strong engine in the euro car world. take for example the 80's 900 engine, who's stock bottom end can support up to 400whp(200hp/L, weak trans though lol) and the 2.5L bmw M50,(1993-5, 190 hp stock) featuring variable intake camshaft timing,(called VANOS, on both cams later) essintially an earlier version of v-tec or vvt-i lol(yeah, they're not posers), this is a standard feature on most euro engines but hyped on jap engines

A well designed engine is a well designed engine and thats all there is to it, but i guess many car companies and enthusists of certain brands feel that they need to brag a little too much

And who ever said four bangers always sound ricey no matter what should be slapped very hard in the face

yeah, you can make amazing power out of any engine really(have to do more to some of course) Its just that the jap car enthusists try to hype there cars above all other "tuner" cars, and it works, the majority of people think that the 2.6-2.6L skyline engine is somehow better than any v8, or 4cyl in this case, just cause it has strong stock internals and many people have seen big numbers with them in comparison to other engines of it's size. The point im trying to make is that the only thing that hyped up fully modified engines has over others is maybe more valves per cyl. and a lot of nitro on the dyno.

Just take Koenigsegg as an example of how crazy the swedes can be

http://www.koenigsegg.com/ for those that dont know the car,

kinda amusing that it raped Top Gears fastest car on their track by seconds...

The koenigsegg CCX and CCR are the fastest cars in the world to truely meet 50 state emissions and bumper requirements.(at least around a track, what super cars are designed for any way, but they do make a 9 sec 1/4 mile @ 146 mph with Y tires apperently) There will be a faster car in 2007 sold in the US, the Caparo T1,(brought to you by the rouge McLaren engineers) but it doesnt have bumpers and meeting 50 state emissions might be questionable (has a 3g skid pad though)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4YOr...elated&search=
kind of unfair lol, but if you look at the comments you can see what people think of the skyline, and yes the bugatti is faster than the CCR/X in a strait line(but does it meet cal. emissions?)

Who's hyping what and what is the point of this really?

The Supra and Skyline have great straight sixes that will put some serious power down when built right. As with any stock engine, they're just like a 5.0 or 4.6 Mustang - nothing special.

the point was that they are hyped by most average people(including a lot of domestic guys who should no metter) to be far beyond what they deserve

so, in other words, there is no point
(other than seeing a 40-50 psi boosted 2ishL 4 banger putting out over 800hp)
