Actually, if you watch the entire video they give the nod to the 03 because it is more fun to drive (according to them) and cost less (which I think is total bullshit)

Personally, I would love to own the GT500, but I is poor.

Welcome to the forum and nice ride.

actually i got the gt500 for a fairly cheap price comparing to others. i got it for just under 40g. i actually saw another one selling for 88g... they said it was a 40g markup...

haha the gt500 pretty much won all of the categories except the drag race... which is BS. so to me, gt500 won.

Take off Shelby's name, 300lbs, and $10k from the sticker price, and I'd consider a GT-500.

I don't mind Shelby, but I don't feel he's done anything to the new cars to justify having his name on there.

Ford would be offering a supercharged, limited edition, 6-speed S197 with or without Mr. Shelby's name on it, and the "Shelby GT" is just a GT with the Ford Racing handling and power packs. Explain to me what Carroll did for either of those cars that justifies a $5k price hike, 'cause I don't see anything of his handywork in either.

The only true Shelby Mustang of the modern cars is the CS 6.

hmmm true, not many things shelby did do, however 5.4 L handmade engine plus shelby's name = instant classic!

plus i heard around that 2010 shelby model will be the last model to be made under shelbys name. so in about 4-5 years, the resale of my car will start to go up up up. not that id ever sell it! haha

Yeah, that's the problem. It's a money thing. I'd argue that the only reason Ford is selling Shelby Mustangs is due to the popularity of Barrett-Jackson, and the ludicrous prices they've driven the prices on vintage cars up to.

But that's not what's important. What's important is that you like your car and feel that you've got your money's worth

That drivers comment about the termi being "tail happy" is BS. He was making the car do that. How do i know this- when i had my 03, i drove it on that same track. After a warm up lap, i drove her hard and pushed it through every turn as fast as I could go. She was not tail happy.

Of course the car would start drifting through a curve like that if you got too throttle happy (got on the gas too hard).

I agree. The GT500s look mean as hell but I'd take an 03-04 over a GT500 any day of the week. Watch them at Road America, the Cobras destroy the GT500s. Same story at the drag strip. I have friends that have both. I've driven both. The Cobra is more impressive in every aspect. The GT500 is too heavy and cumbersome.

i guess its all in owners preference. ive looked at some 04 cobras and comparing the experience driving both of them and comparing the performance stats from both of them, i just gotta go with the gt500. it makes me happy and a whole lot of power to back it up. oh and the fact it'll beat a r8 is icing on the cake

ps im planning to start a car collection in 4-5 years and 2004 cobra (hopefully R) is one of the top cars to get

The GT500 has more power, no doubt about it. And it does feel faster but feel and is are two different things. I'm in no way bashing your car, just stating facts. I love how they look and the idea was great but I think Ford made some costly mistakes with the car.

Your first car was an 05 and now you have a GT500 and plan on starting a car collection soon?....Correct me if I'm wrong, but I guess your age to be ~20....Do you rob banks for a living?

Edit: Nevermind, I just checked your profile and you are 20. Damn dude! Congrats on the bad ass ride at such a young age. Be carefull.

08blkgt500, can I get a job where you work? When I was 20 I sure wasn't driving anything comparable to a new GT500. You either have a hell of a good job or have kick ass parents that let you live with them rent free. Either way it is impressive for such a young man to own such an expensive car. Take care of it.

haha yeah ive worked for various of jobs for 5 years straight and saved up enough money for gas, insurance, and a half price of the car. my dad said he'd match whatever i saved up. so i ended up with enough to get a gt500 i was shocked because i was aiming for a gt. and im not living with my parents... im away at college haha

oh and i knew a guy that owned a dealership, so i was able to haggle the price down to under 40k which is a GREAT deal on any gt500s
