Crash at VIR, AS Mustang

Bill Miller's #33 AS Mustang crash video at VIR last weekend. Crash was due to oil on the trrack from a GT1 Corvette that blew it's engine, and there was no flagger at teh start/finish line to alert other drivers.

stopping the camera to explain everything was getting a little frustrating but showing it all full speed was better. glad he turned out ok. poor mustang...

Yeah, Bill was alright, although a little pissed to say the least. I think he said the car is rebuildable since he basically got his nose wiped by the Vette. The Vette driver was still in the car, you don't get out until the safety crews get there...especially on the front straight.

Keep in mind these are older guys, and sometimes their video editing skills are a little lacking.

And that's what a 302 sounds like above 5000 RPM.

The car that blew its engine passed Bill at around teh 2:20 mark.

EDIT: this is what happens when you don't pull all the way to the safety barrier when you crash or break something.

So it was the track officials fault for not making him aware of the situation rite? If so, id say the track owes Bill a new car..

I completely agree. Without a doubt, it was the lack of track officials that were the cause. But, unfortunately, they won't owe him a car because it doesn't work like that. It's racing, and we all sign a waver before we can enter the track saying that we assume all risks and the track or its employees aren't responsible for anything on-track. I believe he or the CRB (Club Racing Board) may bring this to the attention of the SCCA because regions pay alot of money to race at tracks, and members pay alot too. The SCCA has a million dollar insurance policy on anyone who attends a club function and participates in any way. Somewhere, either the track staff or the host regional club, neglected to provide it's members with a safe racing environment. Had that wreck not happened on a straight and either car been at a different angle, one of them, if not both, would have been killed.

BTW...Bill's getting out of racing for a while, this scared him a little. He's either going to sell the car or part it out. I don't blame him...sideways at 100+ MPH...yikes.
