So I purchased my Cobra in New Jersey (I'm in PA). In New Jersey you need to have a front license plate as well as a rear. So basically I was stuck with the ugly ass plastic mounting bracket on the front of my bumper. I decided I wanted to make the best of it and create my own license plate to put in the front. Just thought I'd share with you guys what I did. I painted the plastic bracket a while ago black. I just sprayed a few coats of black on it, then put a clear coat on it.

I started with a piece of metal and just cut it out in the shape of a license plate and then drilled the screw holes into the piece of metal. Then I took a piece of sand paper and did some "cross-hatch" sanding to give it a nice and shiny stainless steel look. So I have something like this:

I then cut out an "SVT" stencil out of paper and centered that onto the metal. I just used small pieces of double sided tape to hold in on.

After it was all centered and in place it was time to paint. I used some simple automotive paint and slowly put coats on. I did a total of 10 black coats. I sprayed about 12 inches away and did very thin coats at a time. I let the paint dry for about 20 minutes between each coat. After I was finished with all the coats I let it dry overnight. I had this then in the morning...

I just used an X-ACTO (or however you spell it) knife and peeled the decal/stencil off.

And I had this...ALMOST FINISHED

A nice "stainless steel" look for the "SVT" logo. All that was left to do was put clear coat on. I used a rust protection clear coat. I did 4 coats holding the can about 10 inches away and between each coat I waited about 15 minutes. I am letting those coats dry and will put another 4 coats on in about 4 hours. After that drys I will mount her up and add more pics to this post. This weekend I also decided to pull my gauge cluster out and add a nice "SVT" decal to the cluster (like the 03/04 Cobra's have)

Before:

After:

Just though I'd share with you guys some little projects that I've been doin' over the weekends. It's the small stuff like this, in my opinion, that makes everybody's car different.

In PA you only need plates on the rear, not the front. So I had holes in the front bumper from the previous owner who lived in New Jersey which NJ requires two plates.

Sorry for all the pics. They were taken off my iPhone so they aren't great quality but hopefully you'll be able to see a difference in what the clear coats make...

Here's basically the finished piece after the last coat of clearcoat... I will be letting it dry overnight and mounting it tomorrow. I'll put a pic or two up of it on the car.
