That's what I was talking about earlier in the post. We'll see what happens.

So are you painting or powder coating it??
If you paint it you aren't going to take it apart are you ?

I think I'm going to paint it but what is the best way to go about that w/o taking it apart?

Once it is clean. Just take masking tape & tape off everything you don't want painted like all the cooling holes where you see inside the case.

That's a hell of a lot of holes. If I do get a little overspray on the internals will it severely damage it?

Powder coating is your best but but if it was me id take it apart, sand the case/cover/whatever with some 400 grit, etch prime it then paint it with some engine paint.

you can find them on craigslist for next to nothing though. any electric oven will work. only thing is, you can't fit big parts in a conventional kitchen style oven. but for small parts, they're all you need.

Lots of holes, yes. Just use wide tape. Cover several holes with it, then cut out each hole & push the tape down into the holes & peel off the rest.. It really isn't that hard.

in my opinion i would so break it down espically if u want it done right. 1fun4rd is right a lil over spray wont hurt anything because all its going to get on is the stator, which is already dipped in clear or some other kind of paint to start off with. the one thing u will have to be critical with is remembering where everything thing with cause if u put the wrong screw in the wrong place then u can burn out something thats isnt major but will be a pain in the butt to fix cause thn u have to start from the beggening and take it all apart

Mellow is getting lazy! lol.........

I am seriously considering a powdercoating kit from Summit. I want to do my valve covers, 2 sets of wheels, and a coolant tank.

mellow why dont you just use the kits for painting calipers i sure you can find one the color you want and just use those small paint brushes they sell at hobby shops like hobby lobby then you wont have to use any or very little tape or have to disassemble it just use a dremel tool with a polish pad to clean it up before painting it

Here are some shots of my altermator painted... take it apart... (It's not rocket science...) clean it... (Or better off buy a new one and disasemble it...) the pully should not be pressed on.... just need an impacy to remove the nut that holds it on... prep it, paint it, and put it back together... easy as that... (I can post a write up or disassy and re assy if needed... )

Here are the pics...
(ok... I mean here is the pic... I thought I had some of it taken apart... but I'll have to look more.... )
