Good Morning!

I am simply curious if a 94-98 armrest/center console will fit in my 2002 coupe.

I have found a pretty slick switch plate customized for the 94-98 ashtray that I will use for a future car pc/controlling my sound system.

Unleesss there is an ash tray in one of the 99-04 consoles.

Here is the item I am speaking of. I hope he is still producing these in 2008

ive chkd latemodelresto previously and its like in 01 they changed some of the console items...im pretyy sure i can swap in 96-98 items in my 99 but doubtful in your 02....imo

ashtray compartment tey speak of imo is the double cupholder setup on the 96-99/00 mustangs that had an ashtray that fit in the front cupholder piece....i think you could have it fit.....the item is supposed to cover/adapt to the single piece that is formed into 2cupholders just forward of the 2 coin slots or on some the single coin slot and single fog switch.

neither of mymustangs had the flip cover in the one image...regardless problem withthe console swap would be your dash section where radio is....thats the main isue...a side issue/note is difference cup holder design.

i say keep you 02 console and adapt the item to your console.

If the console won't match up where the shifter bezel is...then it becomes a mute point. I did find an 00 console without that flip panel on ebay. Having an ashtray or cupholder module does make sense on how I've seen either one on the same model car. I was getting a bit confused...
I guess I will have to get a cupholder switch plate, or do some serious fiberglass work!

Does anyone have another idea I could use???

I also found another guy who used the ashtray in a '95. From his photos, it looks identical to my console.

th console will be perfect at the shifter bezel.....the difference is how you have a double DIN radio slot and i have 2 single DIN slots....(know what i mean)....the length and mounting point of the console assembly behind the trim at the radio will be an issue i believe.....

im know the difference is also in the cupholder design between my 99 and your 02....(know what i men here?).....otherwise it would/should be a direct swap...i believe ebrake handle use and design is still ok and not a problem either.

what do you want switches for or the panel to house?

its not really....if you read it and look closely he dremeld (used a dremmel tool) the on black trim which got rid of the separating area for the 2 single dins. hes converting and modifying dash for a custopm install and panel to house a 8" screen. hes hacking it and ziptied the cd player to hide behind the 8" unit he will mount in place so he can have a close audio conection. i know the trim for radio is different...i believe after good review all is the same for model years and you could swap it....there maynot be an issue after all with swapping consoles....really thoguht there was...but no car or dash in fornt of me to compare with.

find a picture or a 99/00 console and a picture of a 02/03 xconsole so we can compare.

i retract my disbelief.....after review i see a difference in the pictures for how the curve is where the ebrake lays down...but i think you'll be ok. go for it.....keep me posted.

Thanks alot for doing some research. I was busy most of the night, hence the late response. The 98-00 console looks perfect in shape, as well as color...this may be my best option.
I will certainly keep you posted, the only thing is that I need to get the carPC going first before I actually change the dash. I plan on purchasing a new macbook pro and docking it somewhere in the car. However, $2000 doesn't come easy. lmao.

I wanted to plan out each of my options based on controlling the pc, where to hide the controls/switches etc...which will help me finally decide on what screen to use

I really do appreciate the help. I'm hoping I can pick one of these at a local junkyard come spring. Along with a few other interior pieces I have been meaning to modify.

A little off topic, but you guys seem to know what your talking about...

99-00 CONTROL BEZEL, A/C AND RADIO MUSTANG

Would that bezel fit in my 02? I would obviously have to remove the support bar...but from there I would just have to line up the pins/clips.

I want to move the AC controls to the bottom slot after its dremelled a bit...and then mount a 7 or 8" screen in the two single din slots.

like you said the issue will be in the bracket/support behind the trim....otherwise they would of used the same trim for all the years. i recommend keeping your trim and just relocating the HVAC head to the console or glove box....all electric if i recall so no vac operated dials to deal with...relatively easy.

but you could swap the trims and modify the support bracket....and then youll need to do a custom mount for the 6-8" screen...but its possible....
