shifter handle

me and one of my buddies were putting back together his focus and wrking on my mustang at the same time. wut i was trying to do was one change the shift handle (automatic) but couldnt figure out how to take it off. We were going to see if we could cut the shifter to give it a short shifter look as well. Help on either on of these questions would be helpful its a 2001.

Do you want to take the entire shifter out? or just the grip thingy on top?

I am not 100% on this, but i think that you can't just cut it. there should be a link or line of some kind that will let you take it in and out of gear (the button you have to push to get out of N). I think if you cut it you can mess it up. Call or go to a Ford dealer and ask them for a print out of the shop manual (CD for your year) on how to take the auto shifter out. My Ford dealer does this for me all the time when I need specs for stuff.

this is true also you have to worry about mounting the O/D i tried this idea once i tried to put a manual shift knob on my car and failed horribly . go with the shift kit from B&M itll improve driving and itll be alot of fun and it also looks like the hurst showthrow shifter , just be lucky you new edge guys get the oppurtunity for one
