Stripes or no stripes?

hey guys, i've got a black 2006 with black 18" bullitt's on it and i can't decide if i want to get some racing stripes on it or not. I know someone who can do it for $120 labor and parts. I would probably get it in silver if i did it. What do you guys think?

get stripes and get them WIDE. mine are 14" each and i have two of them. i went with a custom color also.

you have to look a little close to see them in this one, but they are there. dark blue metallic on the alloy paint blend in very well. i didn't want contrasting stripes.

go to your local vinyl sign shop. they will have sample books of colors and different qualities. mine being metallic looks different at night when lights shine on it. has a slight purplish tint to it while still being blue. i always recommend getting a custom color if you can. you'll always be the only one with that color because very few people ever go and do it this way.

How do the stripes work exactly? Do they just stick on, or do you need some adhesive. If they just stick on, how well do they adhere? They don't fly off at high speed or anything right? I feel kinda stupid askin, but I'm interested in getting some, I just want to make sure I get the right kind if I follow your advice Bob and go custom.

the stick on kind have a strong adhesive on them, trust me they won't fall off at any speed, they're a PITA to get off once they've dried and adhered after a day or two.

+1 the stripes won't come off unless you intensionally (sp) peel them up.

I was reading some other threads where everyone was suggesting painting them on, do they look particularly bad compared to the painted ones, how do you wax over them, can you shine em up real pretty?

there are only 2 reasons i would possibly recommend vinyl over painting. i however personally prefer painting them on i just don't have the funds to do so yet. i'm using my funds for going fast rather than looking good.

1. they are cheaper. however if you can afford a truely good painted stripe job do it.
2. if you don't like them you can take them off very easily.

so maybe if you can afford a good painted job go and look at some in person to see if you will like them on your car. the internet is nothing like seeing a car in person.

Also with painted ones rock chips are a Muther!!

If the vynal ones get dinged up or what ever. It's MUCH cheaper to repair.
In my opinon if your car is a driver, then unless you have $$ to burn, Painted stripes wouldn't be the way to go.

I'm also interested in getting stripes for my car. I'm sot sure if I will do vinyl or painted. I'm in the process of getting prices for both. It is a hard decision, my old man said for my christmas gift he would buy me stripes, painted or vinyl whatever I wanted but I like the fact that vinyl is easier to fix for chips BUT I think the painted will look better.

This may be a stupid question but would a person ever get vinyl and then get clear coat put over top them to protect them from peeling. I don't know if this makes sense but would it keep the life of the stripes longer but still keep the cost down?

Shouldn't be any issue with peeling, at least not any time immediately. Fading on the other hand, can be an issue if you park in the sunlight all the time, also depends on the color of how badly they fade.

You can wash right over the vinyls just fine, I haven't tried waxing over them, but I've gotten a little on them from waxing the rest of the car and it didn't do anything bad

Painted strips are worth the extra cash IMO.
