Custom Raptor Install

So I had a few people ask for a how-to for my shift light so here goes:

First I had to get to the insides of the shift light I needed access to. You could do it in a less destructive way, with say a hacksaw or something, but i chose just to rip at the aluminum with a pair of pliers till i got to what i needed.

What your looking to get access to is the led board and the top of the main board:

Now you have to get the led board seperated from the main circuit board. On one side of the main board were the are connected there are three metal wires that go into three white little boxes, and on the other side of the board will be where those wires stick through and are soldered.

What i ended up doing is heating up the solder with my soldering iron and sucking most of it out with a solder plunger. Then I ran a string through the wires were the green line is and put some tension on the string and then laid the soldering iron across all three wires on the back side, where the red arrow is pointing to. The wires heated up and loosened up the rest of the solder and the led board popped out from being pulled on by the string

After you get the boards seperated you have to put some extension wires inbetween the boards.I started with soldering three different wires to the three posts sticking out of the led board. Be sure not to put so much solder on them that it bridges between the three posts.

Then i made sure the three wires were the same length and soldered the wires into the main circuit board. Just do one wire at a time, twisting the end, then stick it into the hole on the main board and then put some solder on the back side of the board on that wire.

Then to just make sure the wires didnt shift around and bridge, i took a piece of the plastic i used to make my template and taped it to the conections just to make sure the wires didnt bend around and bridge:

Now you have to drill your holes in your instrument panel bezel. I used an old cd to make my template. I used a 3/16" drill bit. I ended up going through five templates before i made one that the leds fit into the holes just right. They dont give very much on the board, so you have to be pretty spot on with your hole placement to get it to fit into it. When you have one that will work, tape it to the backside of your bezel:

I also taped another piece to the inside of the clear lense so when the drill bit went through it hit that instead of the lense and scratching it up:

So if you drilled your holes right you should end up with something like this:

Now that you have all that done, its time to install it. I went ahead and pulled my center bezel off, and unscrewed the hvac controls so i could run the wires to the glove box easier:

So then i ran the wires over to the gauge cluster opening going behind the hvac controls and pushed the leds into the bezel and reinstalled that.

Then ran the wires over to the glove box and use one of the clips the raptor comes with to hold it to the back of my glovebox:

Then just wire the raptor into the car and your all finished.

Here is a video of it set at 2500rpm for demonstration purposes.
