the honeycomb one in the hood scoop is glued in if im not mistaken.. you should be able to pry it out.. just make sure you lay something down to protect the paint incase you slip.. i dont konw about the side scoops.. probably the same thing

Why would you want to paint them flat black, no offence or anything. But on mine i replaced them with stainless steel incerts and i believe that increases the appearance alot! people always look at them!

They pop right out, easiest way to pop them out would be a 90 degree miniature pick or similar.

I'm just wondering does the 2001 3.8L plastic hood scoop insert just pop out too? The side ones poped out as stated above, but I haven't tried the hood yet. Also didn't want to break anything.
I guess worst case it could just be glued back on. |

Pop the hood take off the thermal blanket thing that protects the hood. Then just pop out the plastic thing.

Sounds simple enough. Just like the side scoops right? I just didn't want to break anything.
But, do I really have to remove the thermal blanket? Can't I just use a little 90degree tool and pop it out? Would hate to break it though. |

Pacific Mustang... Removing the thermal blanket is super easy... While you have it down.. Take some flat black spray paint and spray the thermal blanket... looks new when done.. cleans up uner your hood...

Well, removing the front scoop insert was as easy as the sides. I didn't want to mess with the thermal blanket because its raining today, and I don't have a garage. So, I just went slow and didn't force anything and it poped right out. Now time to paint it.
Thanks for the advice all. Gave me the courage just to do it. |

oh, and jrfan4life, does spraying the blanket black really make it look like new? I wouldn't think spray paint would work well on that material. You have any pics of yours?
