Zatrekaz's Rear Seat Delete

Started on Phase 2 of the Interior today. I am going to be making a rear seat delete from press board. I started cutting the template for the bottom piece today. Here is what I have atm:

I have plans to either make the top half see through with either a rectangle shape, Mustang shape, or have my amp mounted flush. Any ideas on that front or any advice would be wonderful . Original plans were to mount the subs in it, however that has proved to be more complicated for my likeing. Plus, I plan to install a rear strut tower brace eventually, making my choice of Box location even tougher.

Will be my first time using a Jigsaw. Gonna make some dummi pieces on some left over wood with my template to pratice before I move to the big piece. This will also confirm if my template is right before I make the big piece.

Hopefully I will start making it this weekend if the weather is on my side. Projected to rain this weekend *sigh*

Oh wow man. You really are doing a number on your interior. Can't wait to see this finished product. Especially after the success of the previous project. Good luck and keep us updated.

If I could get those dimensions...I just may hug you!

I tried making a template with poster board but I never could get the curves on the side just right.

Either way, I can't wait to see how it ends up!!! Good luck!

My template is not 100% correct on the sides. However, you can not get it perfect. I am going to make some smaller pieces and try it out before moving onto the big piece. Plus, I will be sure to make the cut just a bit larger than the line I draw as to make it good and snug. If nothing else, I can always trim it down a but with the jigsaw. Alwasy good to cut it to big than to small.

Definitely cut the pieces big first and trim. That worked well for me.

To place the screw hole for the back piece, I just placed the seat frame over my template and traced the holes.

Good Luck with this though, its a fun mod

or you could just use a poster board or something similar so you can get an exact template and transfer it onto whatever you will really use...

That is what I am doing. Project has been on hold due to lack of wood and horrible rain here for the past 3 days. Flooded creeks and rivers everywhere.

Hey no problem, I am deff keeping tabs on your car and what you are doing with it.

Oh and what kind of tires are you getting? I just bought a set of Falcons from discount tire for around that price, with a lifetime replacement on them for just $18 a replacement!! And it follows the car to any owner. Here is my initial thread about them. I LOVE them man.

I finally got the wood and time to work on this today. I worked from around 10am - 11pm today. Got alot done hehe. I have completed cutting the top and bottom pieces. The bottom fits perfect except for a 1" gap on the passenger side. I plan to cut the upper portion that touches first by 1/2" to make both sides have a 1/2" gap insted of one side having a 1" gap.

Ended up that the top half was the hardest. See, I wanted to do something very different with it that you do not see alot. Keep in mind this is my FIRST time touching any project like this. Before this project I had never touched a jigsaw or made templates for cutting wood based on curves.

On to the pictures...

These are the driver and passenger side templates on the wood piece cut to fit in. Oddly enough the different sides were a tad different in dimensions. Prolly user error from when I reinstalled them from my Blackout Project.

After some trimming and refitting I finally got it to fit. The overall fitment was outstanding even givin the previously mentioned 1" gap which is not pictured.

The next pics are of the top piece. The first is of the base piece cut to fit. Was a easy cut due to an old piece I had which was made by Archy88. I traced that out, and cut. Took about 1 & 1/2" trimming to fit good without scraping. Now... if you remember I wanted to do something with the back pieces very different. I decided to go for a "Tribal" style with spikes going inward. This was the first drawing. This is all freehanded. I simple used a straightedge for designing a grid.

Now here comes the bad part. The freaking wood broke because the design was cutting too close to the edge. Therefore I had to start completely over on this piece.

Now here comes the good part. I started workin on the new one, and came with with a killer design was just screams Look at Me... atleast to me it does. I got this pieces completely done and sanded smooth as a baby's butt around 11pm.

So, a total of 13 hrs of work so far. Granted I took to many breaks and ate dinner during this time. However this was alot of slow work that takes alot of time. The slower you go, the better.

I plan to sand both pieces down smoooooth and primer/paint them to be a glass black tomorrow. I was going to carpet, but carpeting that tip piece is gonna be a pain. I am also going to put a piece of Plexi-Glass behind the design, with some strategicly places red neons to give it a slight red glow.

So... hows it lookin?

This is looking great! The cutout is going to be awesome. You will definitely need something under the tips of the wood to support it and plexiglass with lights is a good idea.

i have my initial/company name cut out on mine and it was weak. but purchased a piece of plexi glass and liquid nailed it to the back of the board. but make sure to but AT LEAST 1/4 inch for what u have. trust me. i have 1/8'' and its allmost too small for mine if a little pressure gets on it like abackpack or something. an you have a lot smaller pieces with less support
