tail light tint?
alright so i just ordered the mach chin spoiler for my 01 vert and now looking at getting the mach grill delete and also wanting to get the smoked headlights of american muscle, now my question is about my tail lights, i want to tint those also but not sure on what is the best way yet, i see ameican muscle sells spray tint in a can for $30 which i think i have seen some for $20 at autozone or somewhere but also AM sells specific pre-cut tail light tint for $45 does this look or work better than the spray? also could i just buy the tint for windows from autozone and cut out pieces for my tail lights, i tinted my windows myself all aroud with 20% and did a good job

the film will be more glossy than the spray. with the tint if you ever got pulled over you could peal it off and be ok, with the spray you have to buy new lights. the film is different than window tint. its a trasparent vinyl. its a lot thicker than window tint

Also, if you have to remove it, all you need is some sandpaper and plastic polish. While it would take less time to remove vinyl, you wouldn't have to buy new tail lights if you spray tinted them. Don't buy the $30 stuff from AM. It's WAY overpriced. There's a place here in town that sells NiteShade for $9 a can. I've found them online for $15 a can.

Agreed. Easiest way is by far to go w/ the vinyl. If one is willing to put in the time and effort, NiteShade will look awesome. I think I spent 10 hours on my tail lights (excluding drying time for the paint).

Pictures do my car no justice. The taillights are viynl tinted and the third brake light is VHT'd. The car was dirty when i took these pics but they look awesome.
This was before any clear coat. ![]() ![]() The viynl ![]() ![]() ![]() I think the reason the pics on the viynl came out like crap was b/c the moisture wasn't evaporated out of them yet. |

I did the VHT on mine and it looks good but I wish it was a little more glossy. The vinyl has the look I like but I heard they don't hold up for as long as the spray. It's a toss up. Sending it in to one of those ebay guys is always an option too.

I just used VHT on my headlights. if you take your time it can and will come out looking glossy and just like glass.
first I sanded my lenses with 800 grit. wiped down with a clean rag. sprayed a light coat of VHT on. let dry for about 10 mins. sprayed a second to get the darkness I wanted. Use LIGHT COATS so it dont run. let dry 30 mins so it is no longer tacky. Sprayed a thin coat of clear coat. (I used Duplicolor Acryllic Enamel) wait 10 mins, and repeat clear. I went a total of 8 coats of clear. Lights are looking nice and glossy, but it you look closley at an angle you can see the "orange Peel". me no likey... I am waiting for the clear to completely cure and then I will be wetsanding with 2000 and then hitting with polish. I ave done tis numerous times, and as long as you dont rush it wont run and will come out looking good. If you do get pulled over and hit for the tint, you can just wetsand it off with 800 then move up to 1000, 1500 2000 and polish for nice crystal clear lenses to get out of the ticket. Sorry I have no pics... I always seem to do things like this and then AFTER they are done realise I should have taken pics....
