Wheel finish?
How would you recommend I go about fixing the scratched up clear coat on my machined 03 Cobra's? I got new/used 10.5's on the back and the clear has scuffs on it. If this is possible I probably won't have them powder coated or painted silver. Thanks.

I'll take some pics today after work and see what you think. The scratches aren't deep, they're just scuffs but plenty of them.
I don't know much about this, but I was thinking, is there any way to strip the clear, if I can't fix it, and polish them up?

gently run a finger nail across them. if you can feel them then you might not be able to get them out.

Here are the pictures of the back wheels. You can't really feel anything except for a couple of spots.
![]() Sorry, this one's in the shade. ![]() I'm not knowledgeable about the capabilities of metal, but is it possible to get rid of the clear and just polish them up really well?

Thanks man. I'm posting it in another place too to see if I can get an answer about the stripping and polishing.

If you strip it and polish it you would have bare metal. I am not sure, but I would think some precautions would need to be taken to keep them in good condition since there would be no protection.
I am polishing my valve covers and I am about to ask the same question in a way.

if you really want to strip and polish them, you will want to coat them after th polish I would talk to your local paint and body shop. as to stripping them, wet sand with 400 and go finer until you are using steel wool. I believe 000 wool would be a good stopping point, nice luster, and then you ould hit it with a bit of aluminum polish on maybe something like the Mothers PowerBall. get them nice and blindingly shiny then take them in to have them clearcoated. it will be a LOT of work, but in the end it should look fantastic.

Thanks man. I like the sound of that. It will be almost one of a kind. I'm leaning toward powder coating though at the moment. I'm up for the work, just worried about the risk since I have no backup wheels at the moment.

That sounds pretty nice man. I'm thinking of a metallic silver powder coat of some sort.
