i always wash in shady time of day- never 2pm-5pm- and use tons of water and mequires car soap. i start at top, work down and do windshields, then hood, front bumper, rear decklid, rear bumper, doors and under car as far as i can reach. then i do wheels. for wheels i use meguires wheel cleaner and a rag. then i use same product on exhaust tips. now i rinse down thoroughly and pull into garage and bust out the leaf blower to dry. then she sits in the garage for a half hour or so and i come out, turn on the stereo and fan, and then i get my wax on. i wax every week, invisible glass the glass, wipe down dash, clean inside door jambs, inside trunk. vaccuum, then under hood wipe down. then i do the tire shine and take a glory run around town

Mr Clean is the bomb...but you must use their brand of car wash soap in it and change the filter like every 3-4 car washes but it works wonders and doesn't water spot.

I wanted one of these when they first came out but it got a bad review on MF so I never bothered. I like to hand wash with a hose, a bucket full of car wash soap and some terry cloth towels for wash rags. I rinse as I go (wash a fender, hood and grille ten rinse, go to door and rear 1/4 panel then rinse etc.) Then I dry imediately with a chamois cloth. give the water no time to dry. I always wash in the shade in the late evening or eeeaaaarly morning while its coolest. I havent found a wax that suits me, they all tend to leave a white residue in the body seams, so I use Plexus. That stuff is the shizz!! Just spray it on a terry cloth and rub it in. Its anti static and leaves a protectant coat but no residue. Makes your paint look like glass.

well i like to drive to the nearest golden nozzle (cuz they let you go through twice if your not happy) then i pay the cute girl working there as she stares at my truck completely covered in mud and is probably thinking how much of an asshole i am cuz im going to go through about 3 times, then i get my airfreshener, and start rolling through. now repeat x 2 and thats my tip if your reallly dirty.

p.s. try to get the cute girls number but for some reason fail every time

One thing to think of - when you're detailing your interior, cleaning your windows, etc. stop every once in a while and wash your hands off. You'd be surprised how dirty your hands get detailing, and stopping every 10 minutes or so will help you from leaving greasy fingerprints on glass and stuff...

i wash with the meguires car wash now. and i dry the car by a nice 0-100 run behind my house and then back into the garage. the neighbors all stare at me when i back into the garage b/c my front bumper comes less than a cm from scraping the driveway on the hill lol. but anyway, i back into the garage, bust out the meguires NXT Generation spray wax. and detail the car in this order: left roof, right roof, spoiler and deck lid, license plate area, rear bumper, left rear quater panel, right rear quater panel, left door, right door, left front fender to middle of bumper, right fornt fender to middle of bumper, then i split the hood into the left side, right side, and middle. there is nothing hotter than a deep shining blue car with metallic flakes in the sun. it looks black in some places, a bright metallic blue in others.

then i do the interior, a simple wipe down of a microfiber does the trick. and i move on to my eagly one glass cleaner. i never clean the inside glass b/c i detail my car 1-2x a week and it never gets dirty. then i use meguires aluminum cleaner for my wheels and exhaust tips. that stuff works great. finally, i use meguires hot shine/insane shine tire shine and move on to the engine compartment (i clean engine compartment once a month). i use some grease remover and let it sit on the cold engine for 30 minutes then hose it off. i vacuum while i wait

when im done, it is time for a joyride.

I use Mr. clean to wash and I used to wax with Zaino but I can't afford that stuff all the time. I usually use Meguiar's NXT wax. I love the powerball on my chrome and my wheels though.

WINDOWS!!!!!

Here is a good tip for ya.

Clean your windows with QUALITY glass cleaner. Not windex or etc etc.

There is a foaming spray, I can't rember the name, that is formulated to be gentle on tint. Also, clean them with newspaper or coffee filters. The ink from the newspaper will draw in grease like a magnet. The coffee filters are just a generally good texture and material to clean with. Try it out, I learned a few tricks from a detail guy.

Hell.. you would think my junky car would be spotless with the BS I know about detailing.

One thing that I always do is to use TWO buckets - one for soap water (car wash soap, of course) and the other with plain water. Dip your sponge or mitt or whatever you're using in the soap bucket, wash a section of the car, then rinse the sponge in the rinse water bucket to get the grit that's stuck in the sponge off. Wring it out, then go back to the soap bucket for the next section.

Try this, and you'll see how much dirt is being rinsed off of the sponge in the rinse bucket. If you just use one bucket, all you're doing is rubbing this dirt back into your clearcoat - acts just like sandpaper.

I use plain old armor all car wash to wash the car then after that I go around drying the windows first to stop water spots then I dry the door jambs and the rubber so i can roll the window down without water dripping everywheres, then on to the body, after that I apply once in a blue moon 5 coats over all of the car of Meguires Show Car shine, After that I start from where I started waxing at with 3 coats of Meguires Yellow wax over the whole car, gives a nice year long durable finish that is glossy enough to be considered new paint, even though my paint is approaching 30 years old lol
